Bottle. A dark plum brown color with a creamy light brown head. Sweet brown sugar, lively fruits, a slight hint of alcohol (impressive for a 11.3% abv beer), grapefruit, and as it warms the toffee and caramel come through more intensely. Extremely smooth with thick malts coat the mouth. No rush of carbonation or the expected tingling bite of a Belgian ale, just a silky smooth beer from start to finish. The hops leave a somewhat dry bitter finish, but this oddly doesn’t seem like a hoppy beer (the same way a barleywine can hide its colors).

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2005 Bottle. Dark ruby-amber with a big beige head. Aroma of rich malt, toffee, alcohol. Grapefruit hop flavor under a lot of smooth malt - brown sugar, toffee. Just a hint of alcohol beneath just a little berry fruit. Slightly sweet, slightly bitter, but good and surprisingly easy to drink. It’s lacking the complexity of a really nice Belgian, but otherwise this has a lot going for it.

i picked this up on a whim when my lady spotted a bevmo just off the freeway on the way home from san francisco today.the b3k poured a beautiful deep ruby red with a creamy brown head that left nice lacing on the sides of the glass.the aroma was deep, smooth, but yet complex all at the same time.i picked up brown sugar.molasses,a "bock" style smell, all folllowed by a faint sent of citurs hops.the flavor was nothing short of awsome.chocolate, molasses, malts, hops, and a bitter finish mak this up to be a complex yet smooth beer.very well done indeed.

Dark amber color. Medium sized beige foamy head. Aroma is fruity malt, touch of chocolate and floral hops. A beer to celebrate the 3000 batch out of the Lagunitas brew kettle. A medium to full bodied American Strong Ale/Eisbock?? Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity and floral. WOW. BIG malts, BIG hops and really well balanced. No trace of the 11.3% alcohol either. Very smooth tasting, nearly silky. Nice round soft carbonation. This stuff is really amazing right now. I wonder what it will be like in a year or two? Another amazing beer from Lagunitas. Keep it up guys. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
