more hops and bitterness in the flavor, well balanced, dry carmel malt flavor but hops are the dominant flavor profile, nice long bitterness upon warming, touch of peppery alcohol,

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Eyedrinkale (3214) - Astoria, New York, USA - SEP 21, 2005
UPDATED: APR 4, 2006 22 oz bottle (thanks chris). Clear dark brown with a nice tan head and lots of lacing. Aroma reeks a mile away of soggy cardboard and grain cereal. The oxidized taste isnt too surprising with flavors of oak, grass, nuts and hops. Surprisingly there arent any dried fruit flavors. Not bad but I expect a hell of a lot more from Lagunitas.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 ClarkVV (3578) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - OCT 6, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2007 2005 bottle. Have had a few of these on a number of different occasions. Pours a amber-beige to dusky brown color, with an off-white to beige colored head, pretty well retained, though rather small, little lacing. Clear and filtered (surprise!). Aroma of brown sugar, wet, green hops, raisins, prunes, cinnamon and caramel. Flavor is your basic sweet caramelly malt, raisins, brown sugar and some very astringent dryness, perhaps from some lightly toasted/roasted malt. Hint of dry berry-like fruitiness, quite sugary though with a medium-full body overall, typical force-carbonated texture. The only thing I enjoyed was the very well hidden alchool. Almost don’t believe it’s 11.3% Just pretty boring, overall though. Not poorly made or anything. Reminds me of an amped up Nuevo Noir minus the Belgian yeast and spices. Ok so that dosent really say much. But it’s just boring caramel/brown sugar, nuts and dates. Lots more hops though, than Nuevo noir, obviously. But the base malt character is bland, IMHO.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rastacouere (5923) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 16, 2006
Dark burgundy, mostly clear, slowly fading off-white foam. Malt focused nose brings out sweet toasty flavors reminiscent of biscuit, toffee, sweet apples and soft orangey hops. Oxidation notes peak through considerably, letting moisture, tartish bread and metallic component take more and more room as the beer warms. Raisin bread developments could be said to hint at a vague fruitiness, but the texture remains more sugary than juicy. Incredibly well masked 11.3%, I would have guessed 7-8! Nutty, earthy, finish where the hops fail to uplift the tired maltiness.
