Draft. Pours a dark brune black body with no head. Licorice, dark malts, and chard hop resins. Etoh and bourbon with some vanilla woodiness. Eh this should have never gone into a barrel.

@Magnolias–on cask-pours a light brown head that dissipates to a ring and black color. Aroma is strong bourbon/wood, vanilla, sharp anise-dark malt. Taste is smooth strong bourbon/wood, vanilla, sharp, anise/molasses/roasty-dark malt. Occasional.

Tap @ Blind Tiger. Poured a clear very deep chestnut color with a minimal head. Tangy vanilla and bourbon aroma that almost completely covers the roasted malt underneath. Mildly roasted flavor with vanilla and bourbon. Lightly tangy. Creamy mouthfeel. Warming with a light-medium body.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a hazy deep dark woody brown near black with a foamy yet fading head. Aroma is bourbon, sweet caramelized toffee, charred oak, vanilla, some chocolate and marshmallow, and earth with some sharp solvent and licorice. Flavor is big black roasted malts, burnt notes, oily ink, licorice, solvent, sweet brown sugar, caramelized malts, toffee, earth and wood and almost a sweet and acidic (somewhat slick as well) finish like a bad riesling- has off acetone and white wine like characer? Strange and not very good.

Draft @ Blind Tiger. Black pour with minimal head. Chocolate, maple, etoh, dark malts, bourbon, burnt notes. Well this was beer ruined by barrel aging, flavors got messed up and no carbonation to speak of here.

Very dark thick pour with a small head. Glass has some lacing. Aroma has a faint sour twang with a sugary sweetness, chocolate and mellow bourbon and wood. Flavor is sweet, smooth, cocoa, vanilla, a bit of roasted malts and some bourbon and wood.

Cask @ Hopmonk. Pours a very dark, chocolate brown color; medium-tan head - huge, textured - with great retention; like a dark sea foam. Spicy pepperiness, like brandy-like (rounded alcohol) notes, and some oily dark chocolate in the nose; smells softly barrel-aged. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of barrel character showing in the mouth; bourbony, some alcohol (it really ramps up as it warms, hugely so), lightly spicy, bitter chocolate and licorice and a peppery character; soft core; fluffy presence from the cask. Not a great example of barrel-aging, but pleasant enough served like this: lasting finish of barrel notes; oak, light bitterness, chocolate.

A deep darks tout with a thin light moka head. Nice chocolate and licorice aroma, with sweet dark fruits. In mouth, a nice wooden sweet vanilla beans, milk chocolate, and corky wood barrel notes. A bit lighter than expected but excellent. On tap at brewery, August 16 2009.
