An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

22 oz. bomber. Pours a reddish amber with a small white head. Fairly strong aroma of raisin, fig, and other dried fruit. The flavor is a bit less interesting - sweet and malty but finishes pretty bitter. Itís allright but not that exciting to me.

Nice amber color, small brown head. Roasted malt aroma with some hoppy notes and some grapefruit. Hoppy and malty flavor, grassy notes and some toffee. Complex and very good. Great body and with alcohol well hidden.

On tap into small snifter, Clark Street Ale House (Chicago). Hazy warm apricot brown in the glass, not much taupe head leaves it looking oily. Interestingly, the head forms a stratified lace that looks like layers of different rock veins on the side of the glass. Sub-surface "racing" is deep and slow, but ghostlike. Soft in the mouth, malt flavors are first, buttery and thinly bready and transitioning into a deep currant flavor beneath the floating sugars. Finish is nice and clean, a dry bitter and salty. The beer is rich but not rounded, not integrated. Alcohol is warming from the beginning. As the beer warms, the middle takes on a dark oily hop juice flavor and the alcohol becomes more apparent. It feels sophisticated. Fruity nose with some buttery malts, musty aged hops and alcohol. The beer seems mostly a vehicle for the excellently bitter finish. I would say itís a bit of a tweener: it hints at greatness, but never follows through. Itís like a better-than-average looking girl thatís dressed really well: she seems hot, but you know that much of it is superficial.

12oz. Bottle $7.99 6-Pack Liquor World Iíve been kind of anxious to try this beer just for the uniqueness of it. Poured with a dark mildly hazed copper body into my pint glass. 1+ finger slightly off white head on the pour that dropped to a solid cap of frothiness. Looks good and leaves moderate lacing that eventually falls back into the body. I really donít pick up a whole lot in the scent. There is zero hops which I didnít expect anyway. There is a very solid doughiness along with the namesake brown sugar. The thing Iím surprised about is Iím picking up some white grape tartness in there as well. Not much but itís there. Interesting but nothing spectacular. The flavor is fairly easy to describe. Itís entirely like the aroma. There is a strong (in a good way) showing of bread dough and brown sugar. Lots of brown sugar. Iím getting the white grape tartness in the finish. Just a little though. Sweet but not too sweet to enjoy. The mouthfeel is sticky but the body is medium. The stickiness can be expected considering what this beer is. Coats the mouth until the next sip, then that one coats. Itís an enjoyable and unique beer. The drinkability is good for the simple fact that it tastes good. The stickiness and sweetness holds me back from enjoying more than a couple at a time. The alcohol is pretty solid in here but unnoticeable. I can feel my cheeks getting a little warm but nothing in the taste. I like the idea behind this beer and for a matter of fact I like this beer. Itís a fun thing to try and something I donít really see other breweries trying. 1/16/07

A deep red beer with a medium sized orange head. The aroma is lovely grassy combined with notes of grapefruit, hops, and some caramel, as well as just the faintest hint of alcohol - a very inviting aroma. The flavor is very sweet - a bit too sweet for my liking, with strong notes of caramel, hops, grapefruit, grass, pine needles, roasted malt, and alcohol, leading to a very bitter end with the hops, grapefruit and alcohol lingering, the bitterness finaly turns dry

Bottled. Clear reddish nrown with a a rich, firm white foam. Resiny aroma with sweet notes of caramel and nuts. Full clean flavour of caramel, nuts, pine-needles and spunned sugar. Sweet finish of nuts and brown sugar with piney undertones.

22 oz bomber thanks to Rob F. for this suprise. This is one fantastic looking beer, poured a crystal cler copper/amber with a large white head that overflowed....my bad. Aroma is sweet but not overpowering especially with a name like Brown Shugga..notes of brown sugar, molasses and maple syrup. Flavor is less sweet then one would expect with the alcohol nicely hidden and a slight bitter aftertaste. Average beer.

Bottle. Off-white high creamy and lasting head. Beautiful clear red brown body. Distinct barley malt aroma. Pretty hoppy caramel alcohol flavor. Low carbonation with a long hops bitterness aftertaste.
