4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Enjoyed by its lonesome in a pint glass, late night paired with some Demetri Martin standup on TV.
On first pour, you get a strong whiff of the brown sugar, then when you get closer, you get that old familiar Lagunitas-blast of hops. It’s one of those perfect-pour beers; just throw it down the middle, and it will perfectly sort out two fingers of foam atop a caramel-colored body. Upon first taste, it seems a bit sweet, but the more you have, the more the lingering hops begin to dominate the profile, giving you a terrific malt/hop combination of flavors. For so much flavor, it’s easy to gulp it down, but it deserves to be savored.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap into glass. Cambridge MD.
Appearance: amber in color. Some haze. Little head but heavy lacing.
Aroma: hops forward. Caramel, molasses sweetness. Floral.
Taste: bitterness upfront. Mostly dry.
Palate: medium body, frothy thick texture. Long finish.
Overall: I wouldn’t consider this a barley wine, more of a strong ale/ipa. Much stronger hops than I had expected. Very nice texture.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours caramel copper with a thick and foamy yellow-tinted head and thick and foamy lacing. Aroma is a wonderful floral peach. Taste is sweeter than a typical IPA and abounds with brown sugar, caramel/molasses malts, vanilla, peach and orange citrus - with a decent pine hop bite on the backend. Aftertaste include balanced notes of hop and malt. Maybe a warming linger of booze as well. This crushes other barley wines I've had. I enjoyed the heck out of this beer - outstanding. Very complex and taste-provoking.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A rather one dimensional caramel hop mess from lagunitas. However if you like caramel malt and hops as I do, then what is the problem with that?

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A milder barleywine than you’d expect. Still lots of flavor, but they’ve managed to keep the body amazingly easy drinking.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours an opaque, dark ruby/copper with a half finger of frothy white head that dissipates quickly. A lot of sticky lacing. Nose is very hop forward with a mix of floral and pine hops. There are a lot of sweet, dark fruits mainly plum and cherry. A smooth balance of caramel and roasted malts. Mouth is very bitter and hoppy up front. A surprising amount of citrus is present with a strong grapefruit presence. That blends perfectly with the dark fruits. Very roasty with some booze, but it’s very well hidden.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours clear orangy brown with a pale brown head that diminishes slowly and leaves excellent lacing. Aroma varies from bottle to bottle but is usually hop forward with sweet floral, pine and grass notes. Taste is medium to heavy sweet caramel malt and lightly bitter hops. Body is medium to full, oily texture to start leading to a sticky sweet/lightly bitter, with notes of alcohol in the finish, average carbonation. Great flavors of caramel, brown sugar, hay maltyness. Hides the alcohol reasonably well but not perfectly. I really like this one!
