COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

Enjoyed by its lonesome in a pint glass, late night paired with some Demetri Martin standup on TV. On first pour, you get a strong whiff of the brown sugar, then when you get closer, you get that old familiar Lagunitas-blast of hops. Itís one of those perfect-pour beers; just throw it down the middle, and it will perfectly sort out two fingers of foam atop a caramel-colored body. Upon first taste, it seems a bit sweet, but the more you have, the more the lingering hops begin to dominate the profile, giving you a terrific malt/hop combination of flavors. For so much flavor, itís easy to gulp it down, but it deserves to be savored.

12oz Bottle. The pour was a clear medium brown with a slight reddish hue and an average (1-2 finger) light cream colored sudsy head that lasted for a good while, finally reducing down to a thin film and large collar with good streaky lacing.

The aroma was boldly sweet upfront with sweet bread malts, light pine and citrus hops and a sweet doughy yeast along with notes of caramel, citrus (grapefruit), a dark fruity ester (figs and dates) and a mild alcohol tinge.

The taste was extremely malty sweet with a big caramel presence from the start to the finish, progressing with a moderate hoppiness, a slight citrus peel bitterness, a mild yeasty appeal and a strong presence of fruit along and ended with overwhelming alcohol taste. The flavor lasted a bit long in duration, with the bitter sweet alcohol taste fading slowly off the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was medium in body and a bit syrupy in texture with an almost medium carbonation.

Overall this was an impressive Barley Wine, with the fruity sweetness being balanced very well by the somewhat bitter hoppy flavor. This did take a little off the huge alcohol presence, but just a little... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews

Pours beautiful copper with big, bubbly carbonation. Sweetish aroma of caramel. Taste is sweet, almost cloying. Iím not a fan of barley wines, but I really like this. Alcohol is definitely present.

Draft. Hops and sweet roasted malts for the aroma, bitter taste that lingers a long time. This tastes more like an IPA but has the body of a barley wine. Its an interesting take but not what I look for in a barley wine.

This might be the perfect beer - for me. Non intrusive taste and clean finish. I love it. Not bitter but a definite IPA taste.

Pours dark orange amber with a medium off white slowly fading head with good lacing. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, yeast and some citrus and pine as well. Taste has some good caramel malt, yeast mild orange and bitter hops. Palate is a medium to full body, carbonation is good and a smooth mouth feel. Finishes with a good caramel malt and yeast flavor followed by citrus, orange notes and bitter ending for balance. Considering this is a barley wine it is not as strong, reminds me more of an DIPA, but it is still good. Overall very good, smooth, balanced and flavorful brew.

Tastes like candied sugar. Strong though. Bit boozy sometimes, other times like maple syrup. Interesting beer, will have to come back to this one.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a hazy brown colored body leaving a one finger white foamy head that appears and leaves some nice slightly thick yet spotty lacing in rings around the sides of the pint glass. The body is too hazy for any carbonation to be seen rising. The smell had the hops up front to form a mostly bitter aroma. The malts play nicely in the background coming more forward as the beer warms. The taste was excellent as the hops and the malts combine just about perfectly. On the palate, she sat about a slight sticky feel in my mouth and on the tongue, ranging on the medium side. Though the ABV is pretty high, this is quite drinkable. Overall, Iím thoroughly impressed and most likely will have this again.

Not what i would come to expect from a barleywine. Very lite for a barleywine on tast considering most i have had have been very big on flavor. But still good on the hops and citrus taste. Might get this one again.
