UPDATED: NOV 28, 2005 Medium dark amber; crystal clear. Teeny bubbled dirty white foam with adequate retention. Jellied fruits, toffee firmness, alcohol, mint, butter rum, sweet caramel maltiness, vague earthiness, yams, and traces of piney hops in the aroma. Astringent alcoholic swallow upon first sip. Straightforward flavors of light tropical fruitiness and sweet malt flavors. Finishes slightly interesting with fresh caramel, yams, salt, and bready aspects. Lots of acidity. Alcohol is far too noticeable. A run of the mill barleywine. Last year’s (2002) 12 oz. version was far more impressive.

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2012 On tap at Aces and Ales. Pretty red with a thin off white foam. Sugar and caramel on the nose. Sweet malts with an alcohol burn. Not a strong malt body for the alcohol. Still a decent tasting beer. Finish is dry alcohol.

bottle opened winter ’10/’11. Lovely red-amber color, fruity-hop and alcohol nose with caramel streak. Firm bitterness but by lively bubbles and juicy hop flavor, alcohol warmth at the end of sweet finish. Tasty and dangerous, if a bit brutish.

12oz bottle. Pours a ruddy copper bronze color with thick beige head. Taste is thick of sweet plums, oatmeal raisin goodness. An old favorite of mine.

Originally reviewed: 5/10/09. Pours a deep copper color with a very small off-white head on top. This disappears to a ring around the edge which surprisingly leaves decent sip rings sticking to the glass. Smells of strong pineapple, lemon, pineapple, and pineapple. Extreme citrus going on here. Mouthfeel is crisp, but a tad spritzy. Flavor is of sweet molasses, brown sugar, tart apples, and finishes bitter. A dull bitter this one is. Reminds me of a barleywine for sure. Drinkability is low, because this is just too sweet and too weird. This is a strange strong ale. Glad I tried it, but I won’t be back anytime soon.

16-03-12 Bouteille (2 ans vieillie): Ambrée, limpide, mais avec de millions de minuscules particules en suspension, légère effervescence et moyen collet de mousse beige. Arômes d’alcool, de fruits rouge, de caramel. Saveurs sucrée, touche d’amertume et de surette. Corps asser fort avec une texture crémeuse. Forte carbonisation et finale sucrée et alcoolisée.

This beer has a flavor similar to the IPA’s, that is, with citrus notes, but also has sweet notes of sugar, and malt. Body medium to high, tastes great, unique because it is a mixture of styles, the taste is between a brown ale and an IPA; high level of hops, malt high in taste somewhat complex, but easy take. Develop good head with good retention

Dark amber and copper color, clear, with a good size cream-yellow head. Aroma is sweet honey and a little caramel, cereal and a hint of booze. Hops are more evident in the taste but heavier on the malt side with some sweet grapey-ness, and rich caramel malts. A nice spicy alcohol bite in the finish.

Sampled at the Day After Thanksgiving Tasting 2011. Clear dark amber pour with tan head. Piney hop nose but totally overpowered with big sweet brown sugar and caramel. Good hop finish. Very sweet.
