3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very good, though it took some getting used to. I expected more sweetness, but got a decent, hoppy barley wine with hints of pine, creamy mouth feel, and warmth in the finish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Ralph’s in Hillcrest (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $8.39 (w/ Ralph’s card and 30 percent off after buying four 6-packs) for a 6-pack
Purchased: Dec. 5, 2013
Consumed: Dec. 5, 2013
Poured a amber auburn somewhat clear color with four fingers of khaki white head. A light stream of bubbles coming up at various spots of the glass. Tons of thick foamy lacing along the sides, pretty uneven. A very nice amount of layered retention on the top all the way down.
First smell you could tell it was a Lagunitas. Got floral hops, brown sugar, caramel malts, spicy notes, soap, light pine, citrus hops, lime and some toffee.
Tasted the 9.99 percent ABV right from the get-go. No hiding it there. Got caramel, brown sugar, sweet sugary floral hops, faint orange citrus hops, tropical notes and some faint toffee.
Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, sugary finish.
I have to say I was a bit disappointed overall. A good beer, but not great. I have may even overrated it a bit.

Vintage 2012! Been waitin on this.
Pours a nice copper ale with the same old dome centric white etched surface. Smells like alcohol, hops, sugar and brown sugar and a bit of cotton candy. Flavor is sweet and boozy with some hints of caramel and sugar. Medium bodied with reserved carb and a wet finish. I like this beer.

It’s funny that this was going to be a throw away considering that most beer at this strength level tastes much worse. At 9.9% this beer was going to get close to a 4 rating from me no matter what it tasted like. So since it’s not bad at all it gets the whole 4! God bless the 1 beer buzz!

Deep amber brown. Floral hops and toffee nose. Rich and malty with a nice hop bite to balance out the sweetness. Good stuff...dangerous.

12 oz Bottle. The beer pours to a light clear amber color with a medium white head. The aroma has caramel, citrus, resin & some citrus notes. The taste is bitter upfront with a good balance all the way through the finish. Overall a very good beer.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours reddish-brown with a off white head. Taste sweet, Carmel, brown sugar. I thought this was good. I could drink this again.

Another good hoppy beer from Lagunitas. Ruby red, with a small head. Aroma of sweet malts, fruity hops, and bread. Easy to drink, not much detection of alcohol, a little too sweet on the palate, but overall a solid beer.

Pooura a light amber. Has a sweet floral hop and grapefruit aroma. Taste is a mix of citrus and floral hops and some pine. A light bitter citrus hop aftertaste.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
!2 oz. bottle in a snifter. Pours a clear amber with a moderate off-white head. Aroma is mango, grapefruit, orange, pine, and a bit of sugary sweetness. I don’t think any brewery creates such beautiful smelling beers as Lagunitas. Taste mostly follows the nose, with a slight malty taste at the back of the throat. That aftertaste is about the only thing reminding me that this is a barley wine. As usual, Lagunitas has created a superb brew.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle into snifter glass, deep amber-copper with off-white head. Aroma of grapefruity citrus hops and heavy caramel malt. Taste is much more malty then aroma led on, notes of brown sugar, dark dried fruits (raisins, figs), bready, nutty with citrus/piney hop bitterness. Heavy body, low carbonation, syrupy, thick with sugary malty finish. Very good.
