An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

Long Island, NY - 12 oz. bottle poured a dark amber color with medium head and slight lacing. Aroma is hop heavy and anyone would assume this is a classic IPA. Taste is purely barleywine. Not much of a barleywine drinker but I was pleasantly surprised. Sweet wine tones with an immense hop presence, I could get used to this. ---Rated via RateBeer for iPhone

Bottle from Systembolaget. Reddish brown color in the glass with a fluffy, thick, white head. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, cotton candy and syrup. The taste bites you inside the mouth, tropical fruit, dried dark fruit, quite heavy alcohol. Long after taste of bitterness.

355ml bottle. Shiny red-brown with tall off white head. Aroma of caramel, sugar, grains and something slightly off. Rather sweet taste with plain brown sugar dominating but also acompanied by a nice hop bitterness and some flavors of burnt sugar and caramel as well as hints of overripe and dried fruits. Maybe not a lot happening in the flavors but the ones that are there combine nicely and play out well. Sticky sugar syrup-y mouthfeel with sticky sugar lingering the longest joined by increasing alcohol warmth.

Bottle. Amber with a off white head that rests down to a covering film. Sweet aroma with earthy, pine and quite sharp/aggresive herbal hops. Quite good balance between the sweet malty caramel taste and the bitter piney, herbal hops. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, smooth mouth feel. After taste is sweet with a herbal/peppery hop bite.
A bit too heavy on the herbal hops perhaps, otherwise quite good.

Aroma: citrus fruits, heavy caramel malts, alcohol. Appearance: clear amber, small, frothy, white head. Taste: heavy sweet. Palate: super sweet, molasses, sugar syrup, intensest forms of caramel, grapefruits, bitters coming up, dry finish. Overall: nice Barley Wine, yet not quite at the top, bit too sharp, lacks elegance. Pint at CBR2015, Shoreditch.

A bit too sweet for me. Didn’t see that this was a barley wine. Sticky and with that slighly odd aroma and taste.

Bottle: Clear deep red colour, big head. Aroma is dominated of brown sugar, mixed with citrus, flowers and caramelly. Flavor had a creamy mouthfeeling of caramelly, vanilla, brown sugar, citrus, som alcy, medium body, medium sweet malty/sugar fruity finish.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Smell of dried fruit, caramel and roasted sugar. However not as sweet as I expected, it has a similar taste but not overly sweet.

Pours clear copper with a finger of off-white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, resin, grapefruit, light butterscotch. Taste is big caramel sweet at first followed by a rich but controlled bitter finish. Thick, creamy body with soft carbonation.

Nästan ingen doft alls. Skummet däremot smakar som brunsocker eller karamelliserad socker. Smaken är väldigt sött och len, nästan som en Stout i fylligheten. Det är ovanligt. Ganska mäktig. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: Copper, orange, & amber hybrid gradient of colors with decent clarity, compromised by only a slight chill haze. Dusty, off-white head remains small atop the brew. Strong, syrupy sweet aroma loaded with peppery hops, booze soaked plums, sticky raisins, heavy caramel, toffee, toasted residual sugars. Lots of hoppage, too; herbal, ashy, oily, & pungent hops in the back-end. Sticky, heavy body. Thick. Complex flavor, lots going on. Heavy caramel, sweet toffee, syrupy molasses, burnt brown sugar, anise, booze, raisins, over-ripe plums. Malt bomb. Super sweet. Hops are still very potent; pungent, earthy, herbal, ashy, oily, & bitter. Resinous in the finish. However rather than balance each other out, the sweetness of the malt is competing with the pungency of the hops for king of the hill. Leafy hop, sugary caramel, & sweet black cherry finish. Not bad at all, but this beer suffers from gender identity disorder just a little bit. I can’t decide what exactly it is.
