COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

The nose is sweet with brown sugar, toffee & piney/grapefruit hops. The flavor starts sweet and sugary with lots of bitter pine and grapefruit hops. Alcohol comes next with a big toasty bread and caramel finish. A very nice, hoppy brown ale.

Bottle. This was fantastic. Brown enough, but not exactly sugary. Rich dark coppery-red, thin head. Aromas of molasses, malts, hops. Deliciously smooth and rich- could not pick the high alcohol at all. Awesome stuff.

Nice brew. Pours brownish/red. Semi sweet and hides the 10 percent alcahol very well. Not exactly a brown ale that I’m used to, but i was pleasantly surprised.

The odd thing here is that when I originally tasted this beer, December 2012, I didn’t like it. I didn’t see what all the fuss was about. Maybe cause I was expecting more of a "brown sugar" taste to the beer. I cellared the remaining four bottles I had and on a whim, decided to open one about two weeks back. To my surprise, I found the taste phenomenal this time. The quintessential American barley wine, it tastes to me like Anchor Steam’s Old Foghorn "should" taste. Really delicious and I really doubt the four months of cellaring made that much of a difference. Sorry now that I didn’t buy more and will certainly get more when it arrives again late this year.

12oz bottle. Pours a bright amber color with a large frothy white head. Aroma of sweet bready caramel malt, brown sugar, grapefruit, and pine. Taste is citrus, grapefruit, sweet burnt caramel, brown sugar, and a light breadiness. Finishes with piney hops, herbal spice, and toasted grains.

On draught at Roscoe’s. 2012 vintage. Golden amber color. Intense citrus hop aroma. Sweet, citrusy hop flavor. Well balanced. Finishes with a nice hop kick, not bitter.

Backlog rating 1-23-2009 Fort Wayne Gathering (Bottle) When poured, this beer has a small tan head with a short retention, transparent body, no visible carbonation, one ring of lacing, and the body has an orange hue. The Aroma is citrus hops, caramel and piney. This beer has the flavor of some caramel and citrus, pine and floral hops. The Palate is slightly tingly and this barley wine is medium bodied. All-in-all this beer is quaffable, worth trying but since barley wine beers are not one of my favorite beer styles I more than likely will not drink this again.

Bottle shared at a tasting at the new Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks Bytemesis. Pours hazy dark golden with a cream-coloured head. Some cucumber, sage, nettle and pine aroma, a little medicinal, bitter, even herbal. Sticky, syrupy, full-bodied, long and a little sweet finish. Really good.
