An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

Beautiful copper color with thick cream foam. Nice hoppy malt and caramel aroma. Big malty flavor with a generous dose of hops. The light mouth feel makes the flavors pop. Excellent beer.

Smells a little like an IPA, which explains the hoppy finish. The first couple sips screamed of malt, but once the hops kicked in that was forgotten. No doubt after about 4 oz that this beer has a high ABV. Overall, a delicious beer but I doubt I can drink two in one sitting.

A slightly sweet delicious beer that I extremely surprised to find out is 9.9% abv. Nice color and a good head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can tell that this was an aborted barley wine as it shares many of those traits to go with a better drinkability. Brown sugar is both subtle and shines through and adds to it. Very complex brew to savor and ponder. Strong alcohol presence and bitterness make this a combo of an American strong ale meets a barley wine. AGED 1 year: alcoholic is less noticeable and harshness has subdued. Add 2 points to taste and overall exp. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a copper-red with an off-white head and lacing. It has an aroma of pine and rarity hops with some toasty malt. The flavor is complex hops and malt, with pine and earth up front with a sweet backbone and finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Well, holy shit, itís a christmas miracle - i thought i was opening a brown ale, but it turns out to be a 9.9% barleywine. Far out man, you totally rock man. Not even noon dude and Iíve already watched some old school TMNT. It feels so good to be so bad. Now on to the beer man. Boozy, bitter and spicy. Not a brown ale at all dawg. A bit immature homeslice. Gotta wait until itís mature man.

Not my type of beer. Had an interesting initial taste - spicy and slightly sweet, but had that very hoppy bitter aftertaste that I personally do not like, at least not at this time of year. Perhaps if you are an IPA fan you might like this seasonal brew, but it's not the beer for me. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is pine, sugar/candy and malts. The flavor is grapefruit, malts, fruit/dark fruit, mild molasses and a tart/warming finish.

Pours a light brown with medium head and lacing. Taste of caramel, biscuits, and balanced well with hops. This one does not taste like a beer that's 9.9 abv. You can get in trouble with this one. Solid beer! ----Hophaze out

Bottle pour - clear amber with a robust light tan head that recedes slowly into a thick film that might last until rapture if I allowed it to. Aroma is sweet malt, hops, bit of roastiness, biscuit, and yeasty...odd stuff, but its good enough. Flavor is sweet up front, gets a bit bitter later on, and finishes with a hoppy note...the brown sugar sweetness is evident but doesnít dominate. Slightly boozy at the finish as well. High level of carbonation. Unique brew that Iím happy to have once in a while...and the price point on this one, like others from Lagunitas, remains solid!

Iíve been typically underwhelmed by Lagunitas vs the hype. I really did like this one though. Very east to drink at 9.9%. I typically donít lime sweeter beers but this one works.
