COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An aborted batch of their Old Gnarleywine ended up tasting nearly as good as that they were hoping for, so they bottled it. God bless capitalism. OG 1.100 IBU 51.1

12 oz bottle, no date. Poured deep copper color with not much head. What head there was hung around and laced nicely. Visually looked like good maple syrup with a bit if foam on top. Aroma was subdued. Some resinous pine notes, blended tropical fruit, malt, a bit of rum raisin, sweet. Taste was much bolder. Sweetness initial, but some bitter resin at out the same time, then tropical. Didnít immediately think pineapple. More of a mango and papaya flavor. Bitterness hits at the end, and the I get pineapple syrup flavor in the aftertaste. Body had some raisiny notes, slight brown sugar or caramelized sugar taste. Mouthfeel was smooth and sticky, but aftertaste lingers and gives some tingle from the alcohol. A bit of astringency makes it dry out some. Overall enjoyable to drink. Not what I was expecting. Nice balance, but the lingering aftertaste takes it down tick for me.

Bottle. Bright red with tight tan head. Burnt floral aroma. Sweet brown sugar in the taste with the signature lagunitas hop bitterness. Also notes of caramel, and warm booze. Medium body, average carb. A great winter seasonal brew.

Poured from a 12 oz. Aroma is slightly floral. Flavor is somewhat sweet and hoppy. It has a resinous, biscuit flavor...but not overwhelming with brown sugar. Definitely has a sweet aftertaste. Not bad!

Bottle. Almost clear. Dark amber. Nose of resin, caramel, cheese, alcohol. Taste is cough syrup, caramel, licorice, scorched sugar. Mouthfeel has a bite up front, spritzy in the middle, smooth-ish warm finish. Overall this is a pretty nice tasting f-up.

Bottle 12/15/14. Pours a translucent amber with a fluffy, white-beige head. Aroma is sweet, brown sugar, grass, cereal, spicy, floral, caramel. Taste is rich, bittersweet, floral, herbal, brown sugar, burnt caramel, cereal, grass, alcohol; finish is long burnt caramel, roast malt, and fruit rind. Dense lacing throughout. Full-bodied, chewy. Medium-low carbonation. Fairly intense but pretty darn good.

Fantastic Beer. Finishes a bit sticky for my liking, although hardly a fault, as the name suggests it's sweet.

On tap at Lagunitas Chicago taproom. Pours plum brown. Flavor is malty molasses, but with a moderately crisp and medium mouthfeel and with a crisp, slightly bitter finish. ABV can be felt. Slightly oily.

How come you taste so good? For me, Brown Shugga reinforced a lesson Iíve been too stubborn to learn: Iím past the point where I can treat these types of beers like session ales. After sipping this ale, I was ready to settle down for some quality hibernation. Fortunately, I was conscious enough to make some mental notes. This brew has a sexy copper-brown color and tends to create a LOT of lacing on the glass. The smells were pretty damn enticing - toffee, barley, booze, and woodsy hops. Honest to goodness, the brew tastes like brown sugar. Resinous hops cut through the candy sweetness and help to rinse some of the syrupy stickiness from the palate. The alcohol heat is splendid. Itís safe to say that this ale would be an excellent "before-bed beer" on a chilly evening.

Golden brown with a nice pale head. Aroma is passionfruit, pineapple, citrus, honey. Medium-full bodied, bittersweet on the palate with a fruity bitter finish. Pretty well balanced. Taste is honey, grapefruit, melon, passionfruit, orange pith.
