4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured a rich, deep amber with a quarter inch cream head. Aroma heavy with fruit and alcohol. A little thick on the tongue, but what a flavor! The combination of fruits, sugars, and biting hops played very well together. Definitely a long sipper but well worth it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: clear medium to deep amber with one finger of fluffy light beige head, good retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: brown sugar, resiny pine, light earth. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, bitter and mildly warming finish. (4/5)
Not your typical barleywine - the brown sugar is lighter than the caramel or toffee I normally associate with the style, but more importantly there’s a big resiny hop note over top. This is barleywine on steroids, and I like it a lot. (16/20)

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pine, grass, honey, mascobado sugar, cereal, light green mango and apricot, and fresh, herbal aromatics in the nose. Sweet, but in a "light" way -- brown sugar instead of sheer molasses. Viscous and syrupy in the mouth, but press it against the palate and it gently dissolves into foam. The taste is medium bitter with medium, sugary sweetness. Manageable and fresh, quite hoppy with a smack of sugar, with only a sting of alcohol towards the finish. Great beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
DATE TASTED: January 30, 2016... GLASSWARE: Maudite snifter... OCCASION: helping Shan chop food for a new dish and preparing to show the boys The Desolation of Smaug... APPEARANCE: slightly opaque, sparsely bubbly amber orange brown body... the head is off-white, thick and chunky to begin... then it settles to an erratic, uneven heap of bubbles, soap and clouds--frankly, a surprise for a beer that sports a 9.8 % ABV... AROMA: a blast of raw sugray sweetness, coats the usual suspects in the hop bomb that Lagunitas lights--I sense Citra, the Columbus, the garlic of Summit... being a barleywine, the maltiness is a powerfully sweet, nondeScript monolith of bread loaf... PALATE: heavy, slightly syrupy... active at the teeth and equally animated at the end... a force to be reckoned with... TASTE: dank, earthy, resinous and deeply infused with the sugary sweetness of cane; fewer floral notes of which to speak, and the malts solidify a forceful, meal-of-a-glass to experience... offers up a side dish of vegetable overtones, including prune and green bean... OVERALL: Having had--and enjoyed--the Sucks as a substitute, this presents an altogether heavier, sweeter, demanding version of its substitute--just what a barleywine should do...the overall drinking experience is sippable, stoic and contemplative...drinking into dinner,t the beer complimented a skillet comprised of chicken, potatoes, onions, mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and bacon... quite a victory in that consideration....
