Nicely done stout. Good coffee flavor and very drinkable. Still think I like the big bad Baptist from epic a little better but still a really good beer.

On tap at the 2014 Secret Stash Bash (Atlanta). The very fine stout that serves as the base for this special edition gets a bit lost in this barrel aged version, especially the coffee. But this is, nonetheless, a fine barrel aged brew. The barrel effects dominate but are not overwhelming, leaving some dark roasted malts showing. Has a fine smooth feel, although the alcohol shows more than I would hope. Beautiful dark amber body is covered by a very durable beige head. O: worth seeking out.

Draught @ Brouwers Cafe:   Black, deep cola hued, thin to moderate foamy beige head, fairly nice lacing.   Big barrel aged nose, whiskey, roasty, graham cracker with a bit of vanilla, marshmallow, and chocolate.   Similar on the tongue, smooth, not as barrel aged on the nose, a bit more subtle but I think that’s a good thing.   Solid, smooth, sweet, roasty, with soft whiskey, chocolate, graham cracker, and marshmallow notes.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Smooth finish, chocolate, graham cracker, whiskey, and sweet roasted malts.   Great beer, low bitterness, sweet, and just overall tasty!

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2014 Mini-growler picked up at Brewer’s Haven in Boise over the weekend... Poured tonight... Short lasting dark brown head... the brew is black and seems to be a little thin but has some decent legs. Nose is a great boozy mix of coffee and coconut!! Coconut/dark chocolate is pretty amazingly out front. meaty and vanilla with lesser stout qualities.. Flavor is bigger boozy than expected, but not a deal breaker... again a pretty big coconut component with some whiskey/dark chocolate notes... vanilla and toasty oak move from front to back with the "stout" elements showing as milk chocolate and tying things together. Body is a little light given the hefty ABV.. but still it seems pretty proper.

Draft at 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours a nearly opaque dark brown/black. Decent amount of tan head. Coffee, booze baking chocolate in nose. Body thick, rich and full with a lingering sweetness from the rye. Very nice.

On tap at The Beer Mongers in PDX a few nights back. It’s gone already unfortunately, I went and checked today. Big and fucking bold this one. You’re basically drinking flavored whiskey of the best kind. Take your Lag Capp Stout and bask it in the glory of booze, rye, and everything good in an over-the-top barrel aged stout, and you have this beer.

On tap at Cuginos. Pours dark brown with a dense soapy tan head. The aroma has vanilla, coconut, caramel, roast, cream, light coffee and a bit of the rye barrel - all is integrated well. It has a medium / full body that starts as bit rough, but then smooths out and has moderate carbonation. The taste has vanilla, heavy roast, chocolate, coffee bitterness, rye whiskey and dark caramel. The finish shows some earthiness (hops?), more barrel and a pleasing harshness. Really nice.
