ditmier (1019), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 28, 2009 2008 Bottle - Pours dk dk transparent amber with a nice tan head...aroma is fruity creamy, cacao...flavour is similar, porterish and a bit ashy, has a metallic jalapeno quality at the end...wtf, bitter chocolate, decent, nice to see a Lagunitas label that isn’t a hop bomb, maybe this was invented by the apprentice... UNCCTF (464), Kannapolis, North Carolina, USA Jan 24, 2009 Bottled. I loved this one with the very strong coffee aroma and flavor. Really heavy finish. douglas88 (1556), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Jan 23, 2009 Bomber thanks aptly to lagunitasfan. Pours a clear and very dark brown/red color with a nice frothy light brown head. A really nice nose; sweet roasted cappuccino flavors mostly, some light fruitiness also. The flavor is dominated by a rich chocolate and milky cappuccino, very rich, decadent and extremely fresh and natural. Sweet and very creamy, some light bitterness in the finish. Nice. A top-ten mid-morning brew. tugg407 (12), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 21, 2009 Dark brown pour, thin tan head...great coffee smell and taste. Pretty good stout. I liked everything I tried so far from Lagunitas Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jan 20, 2009 THOUGHTS: One of those wonderful coffee beers that even has the sourness of coffee. The only other one I’ve had like this was Meantime Coffee porter. Hid alcohol well.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown, that look black in the glass until held to the light when it became a bright red. It had a small to average, off-white head that fully diminished. The aroma was mostly just sour coffee. The flavor stared out a little sweet and more bitter and sour, while it finished mostly sour with an average to long duration. There was sour coffee, dark roasted malt and a little chocolate. The medium to full body was oily with fizzy carbonation and an astringent finish. kayod (4), , Alberta, Canada does not count Jan 20, 2009 The fistrt cofee beer who really taste like a beer mixed with cofee, or more cappuccino. very tasty on a cold weather, will buy it again. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 18, 2009 Dark black with a tan almost brown head. Solid aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and some chocolate. Chocolate and roasted malts on the front of the tongue. Lots of coffee on the back end. Almost like drinking a cup of black coffee. Very little carbonation. Not bad at all. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Jan 17, 2009 Very deep brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, coffee, sweet caramel and even a fair amount of hops! Medium-bodied; Strong Malty flavour with hops up front and a good nuttiness along with some coffee and chocolate tastes too. Aftertaste shows coffee and roasted malt, also some caramel and a tiny bit of hops. Overall, a good beer - perhaps not enough maltiness and stouty flavours, but a good beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at BevMo Express in Mission Valley (San Diego), California on 22 October 2006.
