Almost opaque black brew. Nice brown haed with big lacing. Leaves a sticky sweetness in your mouth. Nice coffee and chocolate tastes, more coffee than chocolate. Not surprising considering the name. Slightly bitter finish reminds you this is beer and there are hops in beer. Nice stout but lacking the complexity of some of the other stouts I have had recently.

Tap at Barcade. I canít believe Iíve never rated this before as Iíve seen it a million times when I used to go to Seattle, but here it is. Ruby-tinted black beer with a thick creamy light brown head. Aroma is quite sweet and caramelly with obvious coffee and toasted malt flavours as well. Flavour is very roasty and there is also a vegetal coffeeish character that is not all that pleasant. A bit of roastiness with some bitter chocolate. Warming intensifies the roast but also the strong boozy quality of this beer. This causes the body to suffer quite a bit and makes this beer less enjoyable than it probably could have been at around 6% ABV. Not bad, but could be much better.

From a 22 oz. bomber bottle with a humorous blurb along the right side of the label, no freshness date. Poured a black coffee color with a foamy, frothy off-white head that settled into a thin, bubbly lacing. Aromas of creamy milk, sugar, a light fruitiness and coffee, a little citrus in the background. Good, steady, moderate carbonation and a crisp, slick, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. Pleasant coffee and foamy cream taste, a subtle fruitiness that mixes with the alcohol, towards the end a citric hop bitterness, and a hoppy, roasted malty finish with a lingering milky coffee bitterness. Smooth drinkability on a cold December day, a decent coffee stout from Lagunitas.

22oz bomber acquired from IrishBoy via trade, no date. Pours a clear mahogany with a two finger beige head. Aroma is quite roasty with malt and a little coffee, though much more malts than coffee, which makes me a little sad. There is also some char and light bitter cocoa--doesnít smell sweet at all. Flavor pretty much follows the aroma except for a slight bit of caramel sweetness in there somewhat towards the finish. Dry roasty finish. Alcohol is barely perceptible. Medium creamy body with soft carbonation. Pretty solid stout.

Dark brown almost black color with a decent sized tan head which fades pretty fast after drinking some. Aroma is mostly coffee and chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt with some coffee although not as strong as the name might imply. Bitter overall with a slight sweetness in the aftertaste. Overall, a pretty decent beer but nothing amazing.

22oz bottle poured a super dark brown color with a decent tan head. The aromas seemed to basic for a stout with roast, chocolate, caramel, coffee and some hops. The taste was bittersweet chocolate with some coffee, but not as expected. Overall a nice heavy stout with good alcohol content.

Thanks to the BeerCellar for this as part of Secret Santa. Pours deep brownish ruby, looking blacisk thru non direct light. Heavy dark patent roasty malty aroma, plus some chocoff, molasses, slight anise. Tastes roasty malty, with a heavy cappuccino and dark chocolate flavor, a medium to dense palate, and a crisp finish. Very nice.

UPDATED: DEC 1, 2007 22 ounce bomber purchased from Nugget on Covell in Davis, CA. For claiming to be cappucino, I do not detect any coffee in the aroma. I definitely get a little sweet, chocolate, burnt malty aromas with some definite PNW grapefruity hops. This is not an overly interesting aroma. Dark brown, somewhat transparent body with a tan-brown head that is rather quickly dissipating. Rather roasted, burnt, significant coffee flavors to start. Becomes a bit astringent in the middle, which is strange. Plenty of burnt popcorn later on, Some roasted, dry, grapefruity hoppiness in the finish. I donít care for this as much as most people.
