Pours a dark brown but certainly not black. Off-white head of small to medium bubbles and some nice spots of lace. Nose is actually rather hoppy, which surprised me especially since there’s not much coffee aroma to speak of. Flavor is rather light as well but w/ a nice roasted character and a good balance of sweetness. The carbonation is just slightly too much and it causes it to come across slightly thing and acidic. Despite this, it is quite smooth and it drinks like a much lighter beer.

Poured from a 22oz bomber. Pours a dark brown with 1/4" head. Can see thru and see light around edges of the glass. Smell, the only thing I can pull from the nose is a slight coffee smell. Not too much anything else going on. Taste is smooth, with a slight coffee flavor. This is a stretch to be called a stout, and I definately wouldn’t say it has strong Cappuccino flavoring. This could be summed up better as a good coffee porter. In that aspect it would be a decent brew, especially at that price point, $3.99/bomber. Mouthfeel was a bit thin, more like a porter. However it was really smooth and non-cloying. It is a very sessionable brew. It’s a good beer, just not a good stout.

whaleman (2178) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 13, 2006
Clear ruby-brown body with a smooth and even, pale tan head. Alluring aroma of fresh-roasted coffee, brown sugar, dark chocolate, and light hop spice. Nice robust-stout flavor with a raisin note. Nicely extracted-coffee contributes well and doesn’t overpower or detract from the body. Notable hop presence, but not so much in terms of bitterness. Medium-full body. Very good coffee stout. Like a Speedway Jr.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2012 Bomber. Kind of flat, no head. Flavor has tons of chocolate and coffee. It tastes thin and fizzy, does not seem to be a thick bold stout that I expected. 1/23/12: Having another bomber of this and reaffirming my score- it is my lowest rated Lagunitas beer. I really like this brewery and buy them consistently, this stout however is thin and lacking in the texture/flavor profile I love in Stouts.

KAME (160) - California, USA - DEC 12, 2006
Pours a dark brown with a very thin off-white head. Aroma is of coffee, lactose, and is slightly metallic. Flavor is of roasted malts, coffee, with a hoppy presence and slight citrusy bitter finish. Body is pretty thin, but accurate for the style. Not a bad brew.

Bomber. Pours clear, dark brown mahogany with a creamy beige head. Mildly sweet nose, medium sweet chocolate and coffee. Sweet black coffee flavor with a mild fruity prune note. Mild roasty malt notes, too. Silky smooth medium body, mildly dry finish.. A great bargain for $3.69!

UPDATED: DEC 14, 2006 Dry, hoppy west coast stouts seem to agree with me. A hint of wood. Impressive lacing.

Pour is a deep black with a small tan head. Aroma is not quite as outstanding as i would have like but you get some coffee but mostly roasted malts. Flavor is about the same. Some coffee is there but again more of a roastyness on the tounge. Still pretty tasty for a stout i am just not getting much of the coffee as i thought i should.

Pours near black with ruby hues and a thin foamy tan head. Aroma of vinous malt, coffee, and spicy yeast. Taste is coffee, roasted malt, and fruity dark malts. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lively carbonation. I enjoyed this, but at $3 a bomber, I need to try this again!

Bottle from cbkschubert, thanks Craig! Good aroma, very nice malt character got me ready for this one. Dark brown pour with decent head. Flavor is sweet with a nice balance and finish to it. Smooth and not so syrupy as I thought it might be. Good brew.
