Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Dec 5, 2008 22 oz bottle. Deep dark rich redbrownblack with light tan head. Smells of soy sauce and bell peppers. Nuts, coffee, and booze. Sharp and pungent. Theres a sweetness hiding, but its well hidden except for a momentary burst between all the other things going on in my face. definitely need to let this warm up before I finish my rating. I can tell this one will change a bunch. zappafan99 (462), Ascension Island Dec 5, 2008 Taste 12/8 Bottle. Looks: Almost black with a lacing tan head. Aroma: Wood. alcohol. leather. chocolate. Taste: Mocha. coffee acids. wood. alcohol. cherry juice and raisin. Medium bodied, long lasting flavor with some creaminess at the end. Occasional. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Dec 5, 2008 22 oz. i couldnt finish this beer. distinct jalapeno in the nose and tongue. horrible. could be a bad bottle, i guess. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 1, 2008 Pours black with a tan bubbly head. Light body. Strong coffee flavor with a nice coffee bitterness. Slight vanilla and toffee flavors sweeten things up. Good stout, though a little light on the mouthfeel. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Nov 29, 2008 22 oz. bomber poured deep dark brown, not quite opaque, with a small head that dissipated to a thin, uneven film and left ok lacing. Strong coffee smell dominated the nose, but cherries, raisins and dark chocolate are also evident. Flavors are mostly the same, with chocolate notes being a bit stronger and the coffee more like a creamy cappuccino. Full bodied, minimal carbonation, and a pleasantly sweet aftertaste. Alcohol content is not obvious. Dmalone102 (216), Denver, Colorado, USA Nov 29, 2008 Bought a bomber at Arrow Liquors in Littleton, Co. Only $3.99!
Appearance- Dark Brown with great clarity and a creamy tan head which sticks around for a while. It’s pretty light in color for a stout, but the thin part of the glass produces a mahagony color that really adds to the experience.
Aroma- Coffee, woody-aroma, with some toffee notes.
Taste- Coffee and roasted malt comes through, there are enough hops to balance, but the maltiness comes through well. There is a carmelly sweetness that prevails. The alcohol taste is very present.
Palate- Very drinkable, a little thin, but sometimes I like that, as long as a malt backbone comes through, which it does.
Overall Impression- Great beer, extremely drinkable. ZazuH (42), Brentwood, California, USA Nov 21, 2008 (bottle) Very dark pour w/ a decent, mostly diminishing head. Aroma is bittersweet chocolate and chili pepper. Medium body w/ dark roasted malt and hint of coffee. Finishes w/ a spicy bite. penguinjive7 (67), Buffalo, New York, USA Nov 20, 2008 Poured from a bottle into pint-sized glass: almost black with dark mahogany hints at the edges. About a thumb’s worth of off-white head with a fair amount of lacing throughout.
Smells of roasted coffee beans with a hint of dark chocolate.
Taste is how a stout should taste! The boldness of the coffee bean and chocolate flavor is not overcast by the alcohol. As it warms, the sweetness of brown sugar begins to come through in ernest. The hops seemed to speak very little.
Drinkability was exquisite. The high alcohol level was almost undetectable over the rich roasted malty goodness. Definitely a sipping beer that you never want to run out of.
