drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a mocha colored head, with minimal retention and some lacing over a reddish brown body.... nose of cocoa, mild coffee, bit of yeast....tastes initially of malt sweetness, evolving to toffee, then roasted flavors, and a bitter finish, that is partially hops and partially old coffee. Mouth feel is pleasant, but the finishing flavors are off putting.
I am coming to the opinion that coffee flavors should come from the roasting of the malts and not the bean. MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Oct 1, 2008 A Mes rate: bottle thanks to my good mate Duff McShane. Supped up on Primrose HIll with Sim and Pauline. Black body with a good creamy beige head. Big ass coffee aroma with loads of caramel some vanilla and slight alcoholic notes. More oatmeal than cappucino in the mouth. Milky cocoa, quite powdery and lots more oatmeal plus a faint bitterness in the finish. Collint (450), Sylva, North Carolina, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle, pours a dark brown beer with a thin off tan head. aroma is light and malty. Flavor is light coffee, i expected more. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bomber. Super dark red, too-light beige head. Too clear. Vegetal, chive and rancid coffee aroma. The flavor is mostly semi-sweet, stale coffee; not awful in itself, but the aroma pretty much kills it. Now I’m wishing that I had poured this into a wider mouthed glass, as it might have been somewhat drinkable. Quite light bodied, but nice carbonation. This is a borderline drain-pour. Doesn’t really taste infected from my experience, but something is not right with this beer. uhclem (188), Loveland, Colorado, USA Sep 26, 2008 Pours a deep ruby red. Nose is of molasses and burnt coffee. Taste is astringent, redolent of alcohol and espresso. Mouthfeel is weak and the finish pedestrian. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2008 Bomber! This one missed. Didn’t have a good overall taste to it. Dark brown stout color, pretty light colored head. Aroma of molasses and coffee. Taste is off, somewhat like stale coffee, ransid roasted malts and molasses. Finish is dry and harsh. Didn’t notice the caffine. Pass on this bomber! fidel (884), Livermore, California, USA Sep 25, 2008 Dark brown, very coffee, rich roasted flavor, malty, little chocolate, little darkfruits, very dry. Arayaga2 (932), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 24, 2008 Placid black with a thin white halo, this stout smell of aromatic and raisin sweetened coffee, rather than acrid espresso. Taste is much as it smells, with a light tartness in the finish that exceeds the depth of its roastiness. PLeasant and relatively mild $5/22oz
