BVery (446), Burnsville, Minnesota, USA Aug 21, 2009 BOTTLE: Black pour with red tones when held up to light. The cappuccino and chocolate were huge on the nose, body is a little thin, a little bitter on the back end (coffee and hop). Pretty good, but I wanted a little more out of the body and mouthfeel. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Aug 16, 2009 Bottle: Poured a cloudy black oil with a burnt brown head. The aroma was dark baking chocolate. Taste was rich with dark chocolate, suttle coffee bean, and slight bitterness. Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA Aug 10, 2009 Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The color is black with a red hue. Has a thick brownish head with some nice lacing.
The smell is a bit malty, some coffee flavor that is present but not too heavy.
The taste is creamy, a nice coffee flavor with some hints of a little bitterness. Has a nice milky flavor.
This beer is balanced well with some really nice flavor character. It’s does not over power with flavor but is enjoyable with each sip.
williamherbert (461), Syracuse, New York, USA Jul 28, 2009 The appearance is a glassy reddish brown. Ruby at the edges. Solid, foamy brown head. Rings of lace are solid. The aroma is sweet raisins and some darkly bitter mocha/coffee. Sweeter than expected. Less coffee than it is raisins and dates. The taste is roasted mocha coffee (cappuccino perhaps?). Nutty like a burnt brown ale. Some hazelnut balances the burnt-cookie malt. Sweet and also nutty. The feel is thick and milky; gritty on the way down. It’s sweeter than I expected but well-balanced. Not bad at all. jimmack34 (560), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2009 Pours brown with amber hues. Smellsof roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, and chocoalte. Tastes of coffee beans, dark chocolate, dark fruit, and vinailla. Dark creamy mouthfeel, with a rich body. Good stuff.
(Rating #2496) Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Jul 16, 2009 Puke brown color that’s clear and thin and unimpressive looking. For a coffee stout, let alone a cappucino stout, let alone an imperial cappucino stout, this one was so light on coffee that I would have guessed it for a porter. Honestly I didn’t think anything of this beer, it tastes like a sub 50% beer that you could find at boring restaurants. Not my favorite, and certainly not offensive, but it doesn’t really have anyhting to offer in my opinion. Not bad, but as bland as it gets. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Jul 9, 2009 Bottle; poured a dark brown color with some auburn hints; not nuch head. Aroma of coffee, earth, caramel, cocoa, and vanilla. Flavor was pretty solid, just like the aroma. Alot of coffee and earth in the flavor up front, with a bit of roasted malt and caramel undertones. Not much hopping Some light chalkiness.
