From bottle. Dark brown in glass. Aroma is dark chocolate and roasted malt. Candied fruit. Very little coffee on the nose. Espresso notes start to show on taste. Sweet roasted malts too. Plums. Cherries. Lots of dark fruit on the finish. A tax to sweet to become a mainstay.

Appearance: rich, near black, with a miniscule amber head. Aroma: chocolate, espresso, light licorice. Taste: bright, slightly acidic espresso over bitter dark chocolate. Finish: smooth, dry, and bitter, with a bit of vanilla and crème fraiche. Notes: Pretty darn nice. Smooth and rich without bashing you in the face with it; acidic notes common in coffee stouts were pleasantly restrained.

A- Pours a very dark black hue with little to no head. S- Roasted malt, coffee, toffee, burnt toast. T- Taste follows the smell, lots of roasted malt and coffee flavors. M- Medium bodied with medium/low carbonation D- This was a decent stout. Not something I would come back to but I enjoyed it.

Coffee beers range from really good to ofputtingly nasty... When you buy one it’s kind of a gamble. A lot of the times going with a great Brewer (like lagunitas) is a good bet on the coffee beer because it usually works out, and this is no exception! This has a sweet chocolate coffee flavor, like a cappuccino... Or a mocha. Like a milk stout that uses coffee for bitterness instead of hops. This is a great beer.... One of the few lagunitas beers I can find where I live that’s not some form of ipa, and it proves to me that lagunitas doesn’t fuck around!

Dark brown appearance. Not as dark as I thought it would be. Huge off white head that lingers forever. Smells somewhat like cappuccino. I like it when the title of a beer comes through in its aroma and/or taste. Also in the aroma are espresso and roasted malt. One of my favorite things about coffee stouts is the aroma and this one does not disappoint. Tastes like good iced coffee with a hoppy aftertaste. If I tried this one blindfolded I would still know it’s Lagunitas. I would have liked it better if the aftertaste were less bitter. Palate is silky and it goes down smooth for such a strong tasting beer. If you like coffee stouts, this one is better than many. If I were RB, I wouldn’t have rated it in the high 90’s, but it is drinkable. Generally a weaker, less inspired version of Founder’s Breakfast Stout.

Not a huge coffee person, but this is a dang good beer. I will take one of these anytime I can. Try it, you’ll like it.

Dark 22 oz bottle pour. Large cloudy tan head. Aroma is of chocolate and fruit. Strong coffee flavor up front with a long, chocolate, fruit finish. Pretty good.
