elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA May 21, 2008 2/13/08 notes: pours dark brown. Sizeable head, but not thick. Alcohol and coffee grounds in nose. First sip yields bitter notes of coffee and burnt sugar, though it is well balanced. Alcohol is impossibly well-hidden beneath the coffee, reminiscent of Dieu du Ciel’s Peche Mortel. Good body and syrupy textured coffee finish. Little hops or malt really present; coffee-lovers beer! mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 21, 2008 Pours a deep, dark brown with a lasting tan head and lovely lacing. Aroma is very present! Reminds me almost exactly of the smell of the coffee bar at the Kiln at the Banff Centre where I worked for a year. Chocolate, a bit of maple, graham cracker & molasses. Good memories. Tastes quite nice, coffee flavour is not overwhelming but definitely present, along with a lingering sweetness, booziness comes out when paired with a chocolate cookie (can you really blame me?) No real roastiness but a smooth milky taste definitely hints at the cappuccino rather than simply coffee. Body is thick and chewy, very creamy with decent carb. Great warming finish! I like this beer, I’ve been spoiled with stronger doses of coffee but this is definitely drinkable. Many thanks to Marky D for bringing this treasure back from Boston! tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA May 18, 2008 Bomber. Pours a nice brown-black with small beige head. The aroma is bitter chocolate and roasty coffee, with some sweet caramel hints in there, too. The flavor is slightly bitter roastiness, with a rather subtle real coffee note. There is some chalky chocolate in there, too. Mild caramel and brown sugar sweetness lurks in the background. The finish is oddly bitter, in a seemingly out-of-place hoppy way. The coffee comes back in the aftertaste, though. Not a bad brew. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA May 17, 2008 Thanks to McBeer for bringing this to a tasting. Dark brown pour. Not as coffee dominated as the Devil over a Barrel. Bitter flavor. Carbonation is high. Somewhat astringent flavor. Some chocolate, vanilla, cream, and cocoa flavors surface as this gets warmer. Decent enough. Nothing memorable however. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle from Wine Warehouse September. Pours dark cola brown with a medium sized head. Aroma of roasted coffee and brown sugar. Taste is very much the same. Bitter finish, medium body. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown, slightly translucent against light with a very thing off-white head. Minimal laing. Aroma of stale raost coffee. Flavor is nice, dry raost coffee and a balance sweet body. Thin in the mouth and fizzy. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle from Canals. Black pour with tan head, a nice coffeee/roast aroma with full body and a mild bitter chocolate sweet finish. Nice! blackmurder (164), sadf, Hawaii, USA May 10, 2008 A pretty easy drinking stout with a heavy dose of coffee that is appropriate hence the title.
