grandridge (222), Port Clinton, Ohio, USA Mar 16, 2008 Pours black with tan head. Aroma is roasted chocolate and alcohol, I’m having a hard time smelling coffee but it’s there. Mouthfeel is thick and full with an oily lacing that is left in the finish. Low carbonation, not a lot of coffee flavor for what they boast on the label. I’m getiing abit too much alcohol flavor too, maybe not as balanced as I would like. I think I would like a little more bitterness to offset the alcohol finish. This is still a good beer, the alcohol is not overpowering but I would like a little more balance. travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA Mar 14, 2008 Black in color with a pretty good tan head. Cofee and roasted aromas waft of the nice head. Coffee and slight chocolate in the aroma. Medium body. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Mar 13, 2008 Bottle poured into a tulip produced a tan head that turns to a thin lace quickly on top of a jet black body
Aromas of coffee roasted malts as well as some chocolate
Flavors are basically the same as the aroma coffee and chocolate but the flavor is not the typical bitter it is more balanced because of the malts
Medium body almost no carbonation so it goes down smooth
Not a bad coffee stout I had better but I would drink it again
TheDog (349), Aarhus, Denmark Mar 12, 2008 Bottle. Cloudy dark brown colour with beige creamy head. Aroma of coffe, dark chocolate and a bit vanilla sugar? Very smooth and silky because of low carbonation. Impressive but expensive. radagast83 (1273), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 12, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a opaque black. Aroma is chocolate, milk, and coffee. Flavor is mocha. Chocolates, milk, coffee. The beer is pretty smooth, with a much more subtle coffee flavor that so many others coffee type beers that I’ve had. That isn’t to say that it is watery - as the beer is a lot more consistent than other ones I’ve had. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Mar 10, 2008 Updated: Dec 28, 200822 oz. Opaque black with a small head that endures well and leaves nice creamy frosting on the glass. Aroma is mocha - milk, chocolate, and coffee. Flavors of dried hickory, cocoa, coffee, and then some green herb, ozone, and char on the finish. Heavy body is creamy and slightly watery, with a tingle on the dryish finish. mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Mar 8, 2008 Pours into the snifter an opaque dark brown, almost black color. Produces a handsome 2" thick and dense tan head with superb foam retention throughout the entire glass. Some spotty lacing adheres to the sides. Aromas were pleasant but quite tame with faint notes of burnt malts, espresso coffee, licorice, dark chocolate and a touch of vanilla bean. Mouthfeel was just a touch too fizzy and thin for an Impy Stout. Could have been a bit thicker and fuller for sure. Flavors came through more agressively than the aromas. Unsweetened baker’s cocoa, dark roasted malts and freshly gound espresso initially dominate the flavor profile. Some trace flavors of licorice, anise, vanilla and charred wood linger in the background. Finishes with a tad of alcohol warmth and a charcoal-like dryness. Overall a solid coffee-Impy Stout but certainly not in the league of say an Alesmith Speedway Hollywoodt (174), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Mar 8, 2008 Poured a deep, dark brown with a minimal off-white head. Aroma was malty with a little bit of coffee. The flavor was very light on the coffee, with a creamy mouth feel to it. Not what I had hoped for when reading the label. This needs more coffee.
