Aroma is brown sugar, caramel, with a bit of chocolate and coffee. Good carbonation, taste is a small amount of chocolate with a bit of toasted coffee. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 2, 2008 Pours a somewhat opaque chocolate brown color. Moderate, dense, light brown head. Leaves just a touch of lace. Smells very chocolatey and toasty. Really just a hint of coffee on the nose. Tastes like watered down chocolate flavored coffee. Not in a bad way it’s good. Palate is thin. Too thin. Not enogh body to this brew. It tastes good but the mouthfeel is off. Carbonation is good though. Tastes good but too thin. Edmoe (126), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Dark mahogany, almost black. Nice, thick, tan head with very good lacing. Aroma is predominantly coffee with malt sweetness following. Hops and a hint of soy present as well. Flavor is strongly coffee but without that overpowering burnt flavor so common in the more potent stouts. Good sweetness behind the coffee but kept in check by a nice hop character. Subtle fruit present as well. Full bodied with pleasantly lingering aftertaste. I haven’t had a stout this good in a while! ante (2928), Stockholm, Sweden
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2008 Updated: Feb 2, 2008Bottled. Pours out in a clear dark brown colour with a stable pale brown foam. Black coffee and crackers in the aroma with faint notes of crisp hops. Flavour of coffee beans, nuts and dark chocolate. Feels rather light bodied and thin despite the 8+ ABV. Crisp and dryish mouthfeel. Long finish of nuts, crackers, mint and black coffee. Extremely well-hidden alcohol. talon1117 (620), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 31, 2008 Pours nearly black with some dark garnet highlights and the head is light tan, average, and pillowy settling to a small frothy bit with no lace. Nose is a bit strange and uninticing with a lactic chocolate note, maple, dark caramles, and hints at vanilla coffee. Flavor is somewhat offputting with lots of the same lactic chocolate note, almost a bit like sour milk; lighter notes of maple, light coffee notes, and faint toasted bread crust towards the finish. Palate is less than medium, somewhat watery, and soft to lively. Finishes short and still lactic with a mild coffee acidity. Not at all what I was expecting out of a style which I tend to like. Maybe I just picked up a bad bottle because this was just way below my expectations. From my experience, Lagunitas tends to put out their best efforts in the highly hopped IIPA’s and American Strong Ales and tends to lack in other styles. Theis (3651), Denmark
