Near black pour. Aroma is smoked coffee. Taste adds sweet molassus and chocolate to the smoked coffee.

Aromas of coffee and roasted malt. Notes of hard mineral salts, Burton salts. Pours black with small tan head. Taste of coffee and roasted malt as well. Smooth and very drinkable. Enjoy it while you can.

This is the first Lagunitas to make me smile! My standard comment...I wish it was thick but the sweetness is there, the coffee is there! Made my mouth happy!

Bottle picked up from the brewery and split with Sarah in the hotel. Dark brown / black coloured pour with a creamy dark tan head. Aroma is earthy roast coffee, slightly ashy bitter roast, some hot alcohol. Flavour is semi sweet, earthy roast, ashy, bitter roasted barley, harsh bitter coffee. Warming alcohol. Palate is full, slightly creamy, moderate carbonation. Little boozy in the finish.

Sample on tap at the brewery. Black pour with off white head. Aroma is lightly smoky, roasty, chocolate. Taste is sweet, chocolatey, a bit watery. Palate is med-light bodied, a bit thin, strong carb.

On tap at P&P Charleston. Translucent dark brown with medium/big light brown head. Fruity dark malt, medium body, lower carbonation, and little lacing. Taste roast, fruit, some alcohol, and slightly bitter finish. Is this a quad or imperial stout, not that good for the style.

DATE TASTED: January 15, 2016... GLASSWARE: Victory HopDevil nonick... OCCASION: Book Bingo down, Shark Tank and Cavs/Rockets to go... APPEARANCE: jet black--as cappuccino should be--with a thick, creamy brown head that begins as a two-finger froth and finishes as a half-inch hedgerow with high-arcing branches... AROMA: goodness, burnt toffee and toast with cappuccino, lactic hints of milk, dough and earthy hops that are drowned out by the brackishness of the bean... PALATE: a velvet-smooth sip, with the textured finish that makes a medium-bodied, dry finish--drinkable, warming and chewable... TASTE: roasted is the word, as every breath suggests a burnt bean... the milkiness is present, but a balance is struck with peat and earthiness; confident and full... OVERALL: surprisingly not as nuanced as I had hoped.... a beer that warms up to the evening, but does not further its cause... at $4.99, a fair price for a full-bodied, high-alcohol ale that furthers the Lagunitas profile...
