luv2brew (177), Chesterfield, Virginia, USA Dec 23, 2007 I had this at Capital Ale House on tap. The nose was a deep coffee but not as harsh or as burnt as I was expecting. The middle was very mild with a coffee taste throughout, but it wasn’t overdone with coffee. I thought it finished very well with a slight noticeable burnt flavor, but not over the top. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 23, 2007 Sweet smelling stout, pours dark brown/black. The coffee flavor really comes though in the beer. Hints of chocolate as well. Well balanced and one of the better coffee stouts I have had. jazambon (1), St Petersburg, Florida, USA does not count Dec 23, 2007 Absolutely amazing, I love it!
The deep dark color and smokey notes coupled with the amazing coffee aroma are wonderful … and it usually leads to a long interesting evening because of the caffeine involved. ;-) Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Dec 23, 2007 Color is a deep sable, almost black, with a tan, fine-bubbled head. Aroma is stouty with coffee tones, strong chocolate undertone, and smoky hints. Flavor is rich and stouty and has a strong burnt coffee overtone and hints of chocolate and smoke. It goes down nice and smooth and leaves a nice coffee aftertaste. If you love coffee and beer, this is a brew for you. UCLABruin (34), Los Angeles, California, USA Dec 22, 2007 Updated: Dec 26, 2007Pours brown with a thick brown head. Aroma is coffee and sweetness. Flavor is strong coffee with a little sweet malt. TopherDrinks (96), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Dec 22, 2007 Pours very dark brown, with a light tan airy head. Reddish brown hues appear all over the place. Aroma is pretty vague...coffee, caramel, and hops with some metal in the background. Flavor is coffee, brown sugar, roasted and chocolate malts, and a touch of milk, finishing off with a hoppy and coffee bean bitterness. Medium bodied but creamy and smooth. There is a good amount of lacing that clings to the glass along with a thin tan head that remains until the end.Alcohol isn’t at all noticeable ’till the end of the bottle! A very nice, sessionable, coffee stout. carl4beer (394), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA Dec 20, 2007 pours dark with small tan head, a little lacing. aroma is sweet with coffee, caramel, and roasted malt. mouthful is smooth and yummy with a the coffee standing out. a small bitter finish. no hint of the abv... RSRIZZO (1345), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Dec 19, 2007 Aroma is a light somewhat sweet burnt scent. Color is black with good carbonation and a thin tight head. Taste is roasted, toasted and smooth. Stating with a full body it goes down smooth with a little brunt bite on the end. Finish starts with a deep roasted flavor then black coffee and a slight sweetness. After taste is a nice bitterness and a faint alcohol feel. This is a great nicely balanced Stout.
