Dec 7, 2007 The aroma does have coffee and burnt malt but it also has a seaweed smell. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The flavor is bitter and coffee like with burnt malt and herbs. The palate is thin but smooth. This one is a bit disappointing since it could have been so great.

Dec 6, 2007 Updated: Jan 19, 2009Heavy espresso bean influence, almost as if you are drinking an espresso shot. Gritty and thick, moderate bitter dark chocolate. Some residual sharp hop bite - kind of a sour grassy note as well.

Dec 6, 2007 God I love a good Coffee Stout! Pours a dark dark brown with a tan head, which quickly recedes. First taste is the malt and coffee. It could use more of the coffee, or a stronger brew. Finishes off with a semi-sweet almost chocolate flavor.

Dec 6, 2007 22 oz bomber. Pours a dark brown/black with thin off-white/tan head which dissipated quickly except around the rim. Aroma is coffee and malt. Flavor is definitely coffee, way powerful. I couldn’t make out any plums which others suggest. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with dry, bitter burnt aftertaste.

Dec 3, 2007 This was a very sweet and coffee stout. I enjoyed the heck out of this. Wow. Delicious. Not really cappuccinoey, but definitely espressoesque. Vanilla, chocolate. Burnt. Enjoyable all over.

Dec 2, 2007 a bit thin for a stout. and a bit too easy on the cappucino for a cappucino stout. typical lagunitas sraw malt and hop charater as if all of their beers are layered over to have that flavor. tastes a bit porty.looks nice in the glass and has good carbonation. i taste vanilla creme among the burnt coffee. a bit different with that old brandy grape characterisitc. lingering bitter burnt taste almost smoky.

Dec 2, 2007 Updated: Jun 30, 2008650 ml bottle from Bevmo. This is the winter 2007 release. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head. Aroma was light for a strong stout and featured sweet roasted malts, dark fruits such as raisins, dates and plums, and just a hint of strong black coffee. The flavor has an earthy quality with plenty of coffee and espresso as well the dark fruits and some cedar. The mouthfeel was very full, creamy and chewyvery satisfying. The finish was long and featured biter hops, walnuts and espresso. Overall: I am highly impressed with this ale, there was plenty of complexity, plenty of malts and plenty of hops. A steal at 2.99 a bomber bottle. Recommended.
