Hawksfan17 (717), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 26, 2007 Pours brown. Smells of light coffee. It wasn’t as roasted and overpowering as other coffee stouts. It tastes like coffee with sugar and honey. It has a nice little hoppy finish. It was balanced and smooth throughout. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Nov 26, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark brown, with a thick tan head that slowly develops to fill the glass. Aroma is coffee and malt, with a medium body that tastes about the same. The alcohol is not really evident in the aroma or flavor. egajdzis (3604), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 25, 2007 Poured a dark brown / black color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast, cocoa, cappuccino, vanilla, and coffee. Taste of light chocolate, roast, smoke, vanilla, and lengthy coffee throughout. Creamy mouthfeel. jsquire (2087), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Nov 24, 2007 Attractive dark brown beer out of the bottle with a short lived frothy tan head. Very sweet nose with lots of malt syrup and sweetened coffee, but not as overpowering as a lot of coffee beers. This is a very sweet beer, with white sugar, burnt caramel, and bitter chocolate. The coffee really only comes out as a bitterness in the end, and even then it is like coffee with too much sugar in it. If you like sweet stouts, drink this. scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Nov 22, 2007 soft aroma of coffee and stinging aroma of vodka. black and not dense. several flavors smoosh together from a light body. burnt toast, ruby port, and a candy sweetness like those necklaces youve worn. when i look for the coffee i find it and i like that it doesn’t knock me over the head. Beerlando (2286), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 21, 2007 2007 bottle, 8.3% ABV. Pours a very dark mahogany color. Glows clear chestnut brown when held to a strong light source. A dense, foamy, light brown head crowns the top momentarily, but quickly subsides to just a tiny rim. Sudsy lacing mostly rejoins the body. The aroma is a blend of dark caramel, chocolate, strong coffee, and cream. A touch of vanilla and molasses are also detectable. Smells pretty sweet and just slightly alcoholic. The flavor is all baker’s chocolate and fresh coffee up front, with contrasting burnt caramel sweetness and hop bitterness on the back end. Mouthfeel is thin for the style and slightly sticky. I would classify this one as a sweet stout. Decent beer, but Lagunitas does hoppy IPAs and ASAs so much better than they do stouts. fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2007 2007 Bottle labled 8.3%abv. Pours black with a small but lasting tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, and light caramel. Taste is the same as aroma. Medium slightly thin mouthfeel with a moderate amount of bitterness and well hidden alcohol. Very good mystiksc (46), los angeles, California, USA Nov 17, 2007 Pour is dark, near pitch black. Nice small tan head. Aroma is of coffee and slight hops with a hint of chocolate. Smooth coffee and subtle alcohol taste. Paired perfectly with my cheesecake. Another good beer from lagunitas :)
