LooseCannon (914), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Oct 6, 2007 22 oz bottle. Thanks Immy. Pours dark brown in color with brown head. Aroma sweet chocolate and strong coffee. Taste of coffee and roasted malt with dry finish pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 29, 2007 9-29-07 Bottle. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma - a bit muted though. Very smooth and creamy on the palate. Black in color. Decent flavor with a slight bite in the finish. Pretty good overall but not very fresh when I tried it. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Sep 29, 2007 Dark, dark brown to black pour with a big lasting tan head. Smell is a nice roasted malt and coffee smell, but a noticeable metallic smell as well, as this beer is probably a year old. Smell is not too big, but noticeable. Smooth, mouthfeel with light carbonation, a nice roastiness and cappuccino flavor on into the finish and aftertaste. Some light bitterness. This would be quite a bit better fresh, but still is pretty decent. Nice coffee stout that is not overly hopped. bonbright7 (173), Bellport, New York, USA Sep 26, 2007 This came to me as a good suggestion from a worker at Shoreline Beverage in Huntington, NY as I looking to try darker ales.
It poured well with a slight head emerging in my little glass from the cask festival and its black contents with amber edges making a good look for the ale.
It smelled like a robust coffee mixed with Guiness and the first open flavors really kicked like the fabled Irish ale. I liked the dark malts and the crisp elements.
I could imagine this working as an after dinner drink at Thanksgiving.
Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Sep 19, 2007 Another pretty damn good beer from Lagunitas. 22oz bottle from Bev Mo Carmel Mtn. Big nose of toffee, chocolate, and caramel malts. Pours deep dark coffee color with thin tan head. The aroma is obviously coffee along with vanilla, sweet roasted malts and some burnt malts. The taste starts off sort of sweet and chocolaty. The flavor then becomes more dark roasted coffee and more chocolate and vanilla. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Sep 11, 2007 Nov. 2005 - Yawn. This beer bored me. Poured dark with little head, but nice lacing. The flavor was kinda one dimensional with coffee. Not bad coffee, but it coulda had something else going on to give this beer some character. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA Sep 10, 2007 11/6/05. Bomber. Dark brown with large brown head. Malty coffee aroma.Pleasent non overpowering coffee taste. fullbodied.
