Bottle, 22cl. A dark brown beer, clear, beige head leaving some nice lacings. Fine hoppy nose with chocolate and coffee. Not a big nose, just plain pleasant. The flavor is more on the hoppy side than the aroma, still with chocolate and coffee, and with a fine bitterness. Full-bodied, with a roasted and bitter finish. A really pleasant and easy drinkable stout. Just delicious, not big in any aspect. (090116)

Bottle at home ... thanks to another Forgoten trader (sorry) ... deep black ... soft but good roast with lots of soft coffee nose ... nice mellow roast coffee and loads of it ... some milk sugers ... good roast .... low hop just as i like it... Id say uncomplicated but wonderfully drinkable.

22oz Bottle. Have had two different years of this. The early ’09 poured a rich dark tan/black with a nose that had great dark malt that smelled of chocolate, burnt chocolate, slightly bitter but nice dark coffe and a good hop presence. The taste surprised me and was much more like bitter coffe than thought by the nose. It had a good balance but seemed to need some time to mellow out in my opinion.

tap, smells of deep roasted coffee/malt combo with light aroma of hops, looks a beautiful deep dark black with highlights of ruby on the edges with medium airy brown head, flavor of coffee, chocolate, deeply roasted malt, and a very sweet start to finish, a la milk stout. palate mildly chalky with hop bitters, very solid stout.

Bottle. Pours a deep, slightly opaque brown with nice creamy head that forms little lumps after a while. Smells like roasted coffee beans, bittersweet chocolate, and maybe a little charcoal? Tastes the way it sounds: espresso roasted coffee, a little bit of sugar boardering on chocolate, creamy, vaguely hoppy finish. Nice beer, but could have used another level.

Pours dark mahogany with a 3 finger chunky tan head that has good retention. Aroma is coffee, lots of coffee, some nuttiness, roast-largely covered up by the coffee though, a hint of char and ginger ale. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, roast, char, molasses, burnt sugar and... watermelon. Finish is kind of weak roast, molasses, and some herbal, earthy qualities come out along with bitter hops but it is very quick to fade. Palate is medium-thick, extremely sticky, and somewhat boozy. Not bad.

Fantastic focused stout, a nice vacation from all the impys that I have been having lately. Tons of cappuccino flavor, almost like an old pot of coffee, but in a good way. Thick and syrupy even though it is a semi-translucent brown. No head, $4.99/1pt 6 oz at Milam’s Supermarket

22oz bottle served in a stem glass. I knew this was a bad idea when I bought it but I just couldn’t help myself. Clear brown with a thin khaki head. Smells of old stale coffee, ash, and molasses. Old bitter coffee dominates the flavor, some chocolate, but really just some foul stuff. So many of these coffee stouts are disappointing to me. Is it too much to ask that the coffee not taste like it was brewed 10 years ago and left to sit in a diner coffee pot since then?
