Mocha aroma, chocolate and strong bitter coffee. Tootsie Roll and toffee. Medium bitter hops and smoky sweet malted milk. Nice aroma, sweet and silky. Dark brown clear with light tan foamy lacing head. Medium heavy body with medium light carbonation. Starts with thick rich chocolatey sweetness and mild coffee flavor. Finish comes in with more coffee bitterness and maltiness. Bitter finish is muted but paired with some carbonic tanginess and milky sweetness. Smoky meaty notes at finish, too. Pleasant mild nutty sweet after.

Aroma of maily coffee. Black body with a decent head that resembled a cappuccino. Flavor was like drinking coffee cold with some sweetener. A thicker body and I may of taken a better liking to this one.

22 oz bottle, via zug4abby (I think). Pours a clear dark brown with a one inch fizzy light brown head. Decent retention for being such a thin looking head. Nose is chocolate and roasted malts with some coffee, a light dry yeastiness, and some light hoppiness. Flavor has alot of roast and coffee up front with a dry hoppy finish. A little too much burnt malt character comes through making it a little harsh and grainy in the finish. Mouthfeel is fairly thin with fizzy carbonation. Slightly astringent on the finish. Overall, not my favorite beer from Lagunitas, a little too thin with an artificial flavoring type of feel to it.

Bottle shared with blankboy, mds, jerc & mabel - courtesy of blankboy. Ruby-brown with a wispy tan head. Delicious aroma of chocolate malt and coffee. Body is a bit on the light side, but works well with the flavour, which has a good amount of coffee along with some charred malt notes, and a nicely hopped finish. Not too shabby!

Very deep brown coloured body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of nuts, coffee, sweet caramel and even a fair amount of hops! Medium-bodied; Strong Malty flavour with hops up front and a good nuttiness along with some coffee and chocolate tastes too. Aftertaste shows coffee and roasted malt, also some caramel and a tiny bit of hops. Overall, a good beer - perhaps not enough maltiness and stouty flavours, but a good beer. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at BevMo Express in Mission Valley (San Diego), California on 22 October 2006.

22oz bomber. Pours a dark brown core, very little light coming through; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Very warm, toasty aroma: plenty of coffee and roasted malts, vanilla; hints of alcohol showing through. This beer seems to be trapped between an imperial stout and a regular one: high alcohol but not sufficiently concentrated. Medium mouthfeel: slightly acidic, roasted coffee, but well-balanced by the malt and vanilla components (much less green than many coffee stouts). Dry finish, with plenty of coffee and milk chocolate.

22oz bottle as a bonus in a trade with FlacoAlto - Thanks Sebastian! - Pours black with a creamy tan head that stays well and laces down the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, some coffee of course, a bit of chocolate, and a fair amount of hops. Flavor is very similar. Roasty, coffee, chocolate, and some floral hops. Palate is medium bodied and creamy. A nice coffee stout. I enjoyed it.

Bottle. Pours a lush onyx with nice carbonation and a tan head. Aroma is a blend of chocolate and chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, chocolate, and a bit of coffee in the finish but not enough to really justify the name. Wait, just burped after the first sip and really tasted the coffee. Not a bad stout; in fact it’s pretty good. Just expecting a little more coffee. I’d drink more.
