I like Lagunitas brews and this was a good drink, but I guess I expected something richer, creamier. A dark mahogany body sits beneath a frothy tan head. The aroma of coffee is subtle, faint. I was hoping for that kick-ass coffee aroma I got from Péché Mortel. This was too faint. There was a light note of chocolate and some vanilla. It was also too light in the body. Should have been thick and oily. The flavor was also subtle. A hint of coffee and vanilla. Oh, this was a good drink and would go nicely with a chunk of chocolate cake or even a nice cheese, but it could have been so much better. JCB (1799), Durham, North Carolina, USA

On the initial pour, my immediate thought was that I have to get another bomber soon. Very flat, almost nothing happening in the carbo and zero head. Reading some other reviews, I wonder about this bottle. Faint coffee and chocolate in the nose, but the actual brew tastes a bit insubstantial, both in terms of stoutness and coffee-ness. I dig a good coffee stout too, so I’ll give this one another shot and rerate if appropriate. Palidor19 (1798), Brandon, Florida, USA

Pours a deep black color, just the barest of red hues show through when held up to the light. Decent tannish head forms and fades at a moderate rate leaving fair lacing behind. A funny looking ring is left with large, chunky bubbles on one side of the glass and a thin bubble layer on the opposing side. Aroma is fairly roasty, decent amount of sweetened and milk added coffee in the nose also. Chocolate makes an appearance also. Medium bodied at best, lower carbonation level which helps. Lactose sweetness initially is cancelled by some coffee bitterness and roasted grain. Slightly milky finish. Decent.
