UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 Dark dark brown pour, light lacing, thin khaki head. Smells like coffee and roasted malt. Also tastes like roasted malts and coffee with chocolate and light spice. Not bad at all

Bottle. Pours black with thick tan head. Aroma is strong of coffee, lactose, vanilla, sweet. Taste is smooth, silky, rich, bitter finish, full bodied, high carbonation. Overall, quite tasty.

Bomber imported by & purchased at 10e Mondial de la Bière, Mulhouse 10/2014. Pours rather thin, ok off-white head. Straightforward aroma of Hershey’s pancake chocolate syrup, tobacco, liquorice and some cigar box. Same in taste on again a much thinner than expected palate: milk chocolate, cigar box, dried leaves, molasses. Did not deliver on the Imp or cappuccino promise, but very drinkable stout.

"one of Lagunitas’s’s’s’ best non hoppy beers. the body is just a touch thin, especially for 8%, but it’s pretty smooth, so the mouthfeel is nice. the coffee flavor is done to near perfection. great finish as well, with a subtle hop-bitter aftertaste with the coffee/chocolate."

Aroma: 7/10. Dominant notes of raisin, coffee, molasses, lighter notes of vanilla and banana. Appearance: 4/5. Pours a very deep, dark brown with a thin white head with nice lacing around the glass. Taste: 9/10. Chocolate, coffee, molasses, raisin-prune, sour on the attack and sweet on the finish. Finishing notes are pleasant dark chocolate, raisin, and coffee. Yum. Palate: 4/5. Smooth mouthfeel, astringently fizzy carbonation, with a nice generous finish described above. Overall: 16/20. Yum. Would definitely help myself to again, though at 9.2% and a big bottle, this isn’t my idea of a session beer. I praise through faint damnations, though. Lagunitas has made a quality coffee stout here, and the overall score of 4 is well deserved.

Dark brown, almost black pour with medium sized beige head. Aroma of cappuccino, roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. Taste of dark strong coffee, faint chocolate, hint of caramel, lactose and roasted malts. Full bodied , nice carbonation, bitter coffee finish. Very good imperial stout.

On tap at Fenton Fire Hall...very aromatic and complex beer with fresh roasted coffee beans over an earthy malt base that is both clean and creamy. One of the best coffee stouts.

Thanks Tony! Poor a dark brown with a small tan head. Sons is light roast coffee, slight vanilla. Taste is loud if bitter chocolate and coffee, not really n espresso roast but something lighter. Good stuff

Bomber into snifter glass, very deep brown color with tan head. Aroma of strong coffee, cream, roasted malt sweetness and some ash. Taste adds notes of cappuccino, char, milk chocolate, some vanilla and balanced earthy bitterness. Medium-heavy body, low-moderate carbonation, creamy with roasty coffee finish. Feels lighter than a 9% RIS but pretty nice ashy coffee stout.

Transfer from BA review on 4-8-13 Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours a nearly pitch black color with a small tan colored head. The head fades quite quickly leaving a good level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – Coffee and chocolate mixed with a good caramel sweetness are the heaviest and the majority of the aroma on this one. Mixed with these smalls however are some other aromas of a light vanilla, some smells of an oaky nature as well as a light boozy smell. Taste – The taste begins with a big dose of creamy and smooth chocolate and coffee. Some sweeter flavors of vanilla and caramel are present upfront and are soon met with some flavors of a more milky and creamy nature bringing a more milk chocolate mocha flavor to the brew. Soon a little bit of bitterness enters the taste as some more roasted malt and coffee flavors come to the tongue. Other more bitter flavors of an earthy hop taste come to the tongue more toward the end of the taste. This mixed with a more oaky taste ends up leaving a roasty cappuccino taste to the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is big and robust with a nice thick creaminess which matched the nice dark roasted malt and sweeter cappuccino flavor of the brew very well. This mixed with the lighter carbonation make for a fantastic sipper. Overall – Quite delicious. A big sweet coffee/cappuccino stout with a nice smooth flavor profile and feel. Give it a chance if you can.
