GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Nov 1, 2006 Pours midnight brown w/ a shallow semi creamy froth decending slowly to a layer of fine silk. Aroma of sweet roasted cocoa. Full nectar w/ mellow residual effers. Flavors are semi sweet and stout w/ a moderate roasted character. Cocoa, moderate roasted coffee bean, vanilla bean, and espresso. The hop profile is defined yet subdued. Well balanced. I love this stuff. It slides down like weighted silk. Nice stout bittering on the finish. Overall: this brew is fantastic. I really like the silky smooth texture while still maintaining her residual effers. This brew drinks like a refined Imperial Stout. Big yet balanced roast/hops/sweetness. A fine specimen indeed. Highly recommended. A favorite! sickassmick (81), Concord, California, USA Dec 10, 2007 Updated: Feb 3, 2008good solid stout with a long lasting bitter aftertaste. Had it from the bottle but wish I could have done this on tap. Very thick and creamy and sweet. Definately not a beer I could have more than a couple of at a time, and pretty expensive (22oz for $4) at Safeway. I’ve always been a fan of laggy’s and stout was the first style I was in love with. I can’t say anything bad about it. Not much of that soy sauce saltyness. I’ll take this over a milkshake all day. ReRate: This is my stout of choice by far. Sweet, thick.... but the joy is in the hops afterward... wow an amazing beer and 8.3 for a drunk like me!?!?!? I still can’t believe this bomber costs more than five bucks after crv.... worth it! best stout I’ve had so far!!!!!!!i’m going back to give this beer perfect five because it’s all I dream of in beer. GRUB.
jazambon (1), St Petersburg, Florida, USA does not count Dec 23, 2007 Absolutely amazing, I love it!
The deep dark color and smokey notes coupled with the amazing coffee aroma are wonderful … and it usually leads to a long interesting evening because of the caffeine involved. ;-) beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Nov 9, 2004 Dark brown color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with a touch of vanilla. A medium bodied stout. Malts are roasty, chocolate and coffee. This beer is brewed with Hard Core Coffee and the coffee flavors are VERY evident. It has all the rich roastiness of a cappuccino without any of the bitterness, Very smooth taste. Nicely balanced. Without all the flavors going on this is still a fairly subtle stout. A REAL winner from Lagunitas. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of coffee bitterness. Duhast500 (176), , Massachusetts, USA Aug 10, 2009 Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The color is black with a red hue. Has a thick brownish head with some nice lacing.
The smell is a bit malty, some coffee flavor that is present but not too heavy.
The taste is creamy, a nice coffee flavor with some hints of a little bitterness. Has a nice milky flavor.
This beer is balanced well with some really nice flavor character. It’s does not over power with flavor but is enjoyable with each sip.
Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jan 20, 2009 THOUGHTS: One of those wonderful coffee beers that even has the sourness of coffee. The only other one I’ve had like this was Meantime Coffee porter. Hid alcohol well.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark brown, that look black in the glass until held to the light when it became a bright red. It had a small to average, off-white head that fully diminished. The aroma was mostly just sour coffee. The flavor stared out a little sweet and more bitter and sour, while it finished mostly sour with an average to long duration. There was sour coffee, dark roasted malt and a little chocolate. The medium to full body was oily with fizzy carbonation and an astringent finish. jah noth (1015), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 23, 2004 Shockingly little aroma for such a roasted stout. Deep, dark crimson in color. Rich malty flavor with nice roasted coffee flavor and a light hop finish. Very delicious stout. Thanks to Dark Elf for the sample. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Feb 17, 2008 Bottle: Deep black/red color with a thick and frothy, but relatively thin top. The aroma is just like the chocolate-covered espresso beans I enjoy so much. To drink this is to kick yourself in the pants, thick with robust roasted malts, ashy milkiness, cocoa, bitter baking chocolate. This could be my new morning wakeup call and would go great with Belgian waffles. (#3326, 2/17/2008)
