Head not as dark as one would expect with a stout, and drinks smoother as well. I bought this bottle for the sole purpose of having a beer I’d never tried before to rate here (typical newbie move) and it’s not disappointing. It does remind me of Anderson Valley stout. First sip and I knew I wasn’t in Sam Adams land any more. Doctormirk (100), USA

Aroma was not easily detectable. Flavor is chocolate with a bit of coffee. Rich flavor and well balanced. Bitter slightly acidic finish. My favorite from Old Chicago’s winter beer tour. ericheld (3), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2007 22 oz. Bomber- Nice dark pour almost black with hints of deep red when held to the light. Tan foamy head didnt stick around too long. Thick and full bodied all the way through with average carbonation and a slightly bitter roasty finish. Coffee and chocolate flavor in equal amounts and a slight taste of caramel. Very good. shawnm213 (1035), South Bend, Indiana, USA

Aroma is sweet, with a strong caramel character along with hints of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Body is full and smooth, with an initial caramel and chocolate flavor giving way to a long, creamy finish of coffee, wood, and smoke. A wonderfully smooth and balanced stout. t4h2c0 (82), seattle, Washington, USA

Slight coffee aroma with dark roasted malts. The coffee is pretty subtle but becomes more noticable in the aftertaste. Goes down way too easy for 8%. This beer still has some bitterness to it that comes through in the coffee flavor as it smishes around your mouth. Great beer!!
