2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ohmybock (29) - USA - FEB 3, 2010
UPDATED: FEB 9, 2010 Just picked up a bomber of the 2009 batch earlier today. This beer pours with a dark brown color. When held up to a light, I can see through it which just isn’t "right" for a stout...especially a stout of imperial strength. The aroma is fairly weak and not all that enticing. What’s there is mostly chocolate, but with a hint of coffee. The flavor is a little better than the aroma, but this tastes nothing like a stout. It tastes like a malty imperial brown ale with a dash of sweetened, artificial coffee flavoring. Since this is supposed to be a stout, where’s the expected stout roastiness? It’s not here. Additionally, I like more roasted coffee flavor in my coffee beers than this one has. As the beer warmed, the sweetness became more pronounced along with a stronger yet unpleasant sweet coffee character. In the end, I couldn’t finish the bomber. This brew is best described as a fairly sweet, dark, dessert beer with some coffee-ish flavor added to it. Whether you call this coffee beer a stout, a brown ale, or something else, it’s just not very good. I admire Lagunitas, but this brew needs to be reformulated. I love all kinds of coffee beers, but sadly this is one of my least favorite. Thankfully, there are many other (better) coffee beers to choose from these days from North America and abroad.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Rangi (117) - NEW ZEALAND - MAY 31, 2012
Robust rich aroma and flavor of coffee at 1st that dominate this stout. Toward the end of the bottle the flavors begin to mellow and the beverage becomes more enjoyable. Nice Stout. States what it is up front and delivers. If only I could get away with having a bottle of this before work each morning ohwell
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vestergaard (28) - Aarhus C, DENMARK - MAY 28, 2012
Very light for a stout. Light brown head with pretty big bubbles. As the name promises it contains lots of chocolate, coffee and something milky/creamy. Those notes and the burned malt bitterness is the only typical stout-features. Besides that i find fresh hops and a light body. It’s really moist (doesn’t leave the mouth dry) and i find it a little odd.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheJackalope (22) - Georgia, USA - MAY 26, 2012
A light pallet for a stout, this beer /s complex in its simplicity. Deep coffee notes explode and then recede quickly. A cleansing stout with a good kick. This is the good stuff. High gravity without stretching for it. Wonderful choice.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 QuezXLV (299) - New Jersey, USA - MAY 25, 2012
Very dark color but only thin suds. Aroma is intense of coffee with hints of chocolate. Very smooth on the palate. The taste is a bit bitter but tasty. Pretty good stout.

Taste is pretty bitter, with some slight sweet notes.
Medium body, with an average carbonation.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Slipstream (1555) - USA - MAY 19, 2012
A sweet, cakelike aroma gets things off to a fine start, but a yeasty scent sets in pretty quickly. Foamy topper. It tastes great - caramel, coffee, molasses, with nippy hops in the closing, followed by a warm tingle. This hits the target for sure - excellent brew.
4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 notryans (1) - Michigan, USA - MAY 17, 2012 does not count
On the light side, looks like a porter. Nose is terrific, strong coffee and caramel malt. Taste is very strong coffee and sweet caramel maltiness, finishes slight chocolate, coffee lingers for a long time. Coffee drinkers must.
