3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DrSilverworm (677) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 3, 2012
12oz bottle. Clear copper color, minimal white head. Moderate, but sort of crisp carbonation. Kind of light and dry. Pretty easy going down. Light bitter and spice taste. Nice balance of hops and malty spice, but none of the aroma is too memorable (it’s still just a copper ale).

Noticed some caramel, bread, toast, resin, spruce, citrus, and something earthy in the aroma. Decent head retention, the taste really evolves and lingers. Initial medium sweetness followed by light bitterness that intensifies as it lingers, along with an underlying umami that bridges the sweetness and bitterness. It is aided by a smooth mouthfeel, encouraging longer mouth retention. Not a hop bomb, but well balanced and savory. I’ll need to revisit, this ale intrigues me.

The nose hints at sweet caramel with a hint of hops. Palate is a little syrupy and the hops do not come to the fore.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jcos (563) - Maryland, USA - JAN 29, 2012
Location/Date:Bottle on January 29th, 2012.
Appearance: Pours a dark copper clear.
Aroma: Caramelly, malty, lightly bready.
Taste: Some bitterness, with a nice caramelly malt backbone.
Palate:Medium light body, lingering aftertaste.
Summary: I really like this beer, maybe it’s the extra bitterness I come to expect from Lagunitas, maybe I just like the style. I could drink many of these in a sitting, tasty but not overbearing.

Poured into a Sam Smith’s pint glass from a 12 ounce bottle with no date.
A: Clear copper color with a 1.5 finger tan head. Very appealing looking!
S: Very sweet, molasses and caramel on the nose mostly.
T: Sweet and very easy to drink. Caramel, brown sugar, and toffee notes. This is a great cold weather drink.
M: Full bodied with only the slightest amounts of carbonation, a tad slimey feeling.
O: Very nice easy to drink beer, great for a cold night!

Draft at Dexters. Orange-tan, maybe filtered. Thin, odd patchy head. Medium bodied, mellow Copper Ale. Smooth toasty malt tones, some caramel, butterscotch. Pretty bland West Coast stuff, censored of any unique or interesting qualities. Syrupy sugary sweetness. Not impressive at all, certainly not chronic.
