3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, pre-Rita. Pours a thick and inviting orange. Aroma is spikey, with the hops jabbing into your nose like a steak knife. Flavor is citrusy, rounded out by sour hops. I’m detecting a bit of malt, but it’s so well hidden (like the alcohol) that unless you’re looking for it, you won’t findi it.
A fine beer. I’d have another.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught sample at O’Brien’s, San Diego. Tea-like amber colour. Aroma is milder than expected, but quite fresh, with leafy hops and caramel malts. Flavour has similar characteristics, and is quite well balanced. Really hides that 7.7% - good thing I only had a small sample, as it went down very quickly.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 12, 2007 Superb beer hides its alcohol behind a smooth and polished flavor. Excellent balance between hop aroma, bitterness, malt and sweetness. Really an excellent session beer, although at 7.7 you better sip slowly ... I wish I could get this on tap.
Well, they dropped the alcohol content on this from 7.7 to 5.9. Nowhere near as tasty a beer now .. rerate for current recipe :-(.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Orange Auburn amber with a medium sized white head. Rich caramel malt aroma. Aroma carrys over to the flavor, totally dominated by caramel malt, some bracing bitterness from hops, particularly noticable in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium and fairly smooth, with a sticky build up.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very flavorful. Upon the first pour, I was surprised what a large head developed on this one. I delicately pour all of my beers, but this one developed about a two inch head! It quickly dissapated to about a 1/4 for the remainder of the drinking experience. This is a nice, rich malty beer with sugary aromas. Wonderful red-copper color. So easy to drink and I was shocked to discover its relatively high alcohol content. It certainly didn’t taste like it. A solid beer, I’ll be drinking this one again.

imagine taking the spare change out of the bottom of your pocket and sucking on it with a mouthful of killians to boot. though, not in a boot, just to boot. still, despite its metallic namesake, a very tasty brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Had on tap. Surprised to see it’s 7.7% ABV. Certainly doesn’t taste like it. Poured a light amber with white head. Smell dominated by malt but nice hoppiness. Taste is malty sweet and has a lingering pit-fruitiness. A very good brew, no tastes are in-your-face. Nice session beer. It’s hard to get some love in the hop-dominated world, but this is worth a try.
