This ale contains no actual copper but we’re pretty literal... It looked coppery, so we lamely called it a copper ale. Lots’a nice caramel malt though... Originally 5.9% alcohol by volume, currently

Clear copper boddy, with small particles in suspension. Small diminishing head, leaving a small ring of lace. Caramel, toffee, malt, candied nut, faint floral hops in the nose. These malty flavors follow through to the palate, as well as a rusty, tin, metallic flavor, light body, with a resinous, pine needle, grapefruit pith finish. Alcohol is hidden very well. This is sort of one dimensional as duff says.....but I do like the drinkability and the subtle nuances.

It’s OK. You can’t taste the alcohol. Wants to be an amber, but not hoppy enough. Kinda middle-of-the-road in a solid sort of way. Not carbonated enough.

Pours with a deep amber body topped by a medium thick head with lots of lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet adn malty with a nice citrusy hopp note and a touch of pine. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with a slight caramel note and a touch of citrusy, piney hops. Medium bodied, slightly dry and a touch warming.

didnt know what to expect from this. nice copper brown color with chomp tan head. nose of crisp crystal malt and nicely hopped. some slight tobacco taste and rich vinous roasted malt at first then the hops dominate the back end of the palate not too bittering. very nice beer and would never of guessed 7.7%? overall an excellent beer.

A pretty good beer nothing spectacular. Pours amber with a small frothy white head that leaves a small amount of lacing. Smells nice moderately piney with a light doughy smell to it. Taste is ok too Moderately bitter with some sweetness to it, and a balanced aftertaste that doesn’t last too terribly long. Palalte is nothing of note, fizzy medium body.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2005 My god, I had no idea this clocks in at 7.7% alc! I just thought since it comes in 12oz 6-packs, it was going to be just another common amber ale. Boy, was I somewhat right. Malty, earthy aroma. Somewhat herbal. Carmel malt, toasted bread for flavors. Fades a bit to much at the finish. A tad spicy, with some dry hop bitterness at the back of the throat. This goes down amazingly easy. Overall, while somewhat light in flavor this brew can certainly pack a punch!

Tihs is a good Strong Ale. Bitter sweet, grapefruit, and malty flavors. Finishes rich, chewy and crisp.

Bottle Pours a clear deep red amber with a large frothy off-white head. Sticky blocky lacing. Aroma is sweet malted grain with a slight metallic note as well. Flavor is quite hoppy but also fairly sweet. Brown sugar lots of maltiness, and caramel maybe. Even at nearly %8 the ABV is hidden well. Fairly strong bitter hops at the end but not very powering. Good old american strong ale.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2006 2004 bottle. Copper-amber pour, clear and filtered, with a small off-white head. Aroma of English hops, grainy, earthy, a bit sweaty, with some honey, caramel and light alcohol. Flavor begins with a not-too-sweet caramel flavor, with plenty of good base malt character. Lightly bitter hops on the finish provide a pleasing balance, while the body is medium, with little to no thinning. Moderately carbonated texture. Very homogenous beer, with a well-melded malt flavor and a smooth hops transition on the finish. Very drinkable, had no idea it was this high alcohol. Favorite Lagunitas yet.

This is a rather interesting beer. It has a flavor that is a rich, dry malt, with a touch of hops for balance. I would say that this is a nice solid beer. It isn’t something special, but you wouldn’t really be disapointed if you had a six pack at a bar b que.
