This ale contains no actual copper but we’re pretty literal... It looked coppery, so we lamely called it a copper ale. Lots’a nice caramel malt though... Originally 5.9% alcohol by volume, currently

Copper colored with a bit of head. Malt aroma with some hops. Body is well balanced between malt and hops, with a slight malt predominance. If it were a little less sweet it would be better I think.

Poured a nice dark amber, small head. Personally I found this too malty and sweet.

Dark orange brown with thin white head. Mostly malty aroma, some earthy hops. Overall this beer is heavy on the malts, sweet, lingering sticky (almost chalky) aftertaste; in many ways resembles a brown ale. Somewhat bland, while at the same time there is something unidentifiably appealing here in the finish.

Mild American hop nose with sweet and leathery malt aroma. Clear copper with shy white head that recedes immediately to ring. Fair, sweet malt flavour with some orange-like hop notes and a light bitterness though malt is certainly dominant. Dry, medium body with strong carbonation. Tulip glass, cellar temp. Bottle (Half Time, Mar. 2005).

rich and malty with a dry hop hop finish, it is pretty dank but not skunky enough of an aroma to be truly chronic

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2005 OK, I like Lagunitas and I like the way they make IPAs, I like IPAs in general, and I like this one. Crisp and clear, light copper color, sweet, malty, and bitter. // I got another batch and it was nothing like my first impression. Just average in every way ... appearance, nose, flavor, mouthfeel. Enough hops, but nothing else to balance them out.

Pours a lightly hazy ruby copper color, that is topped by a light brown one finger thick head that. The aroma is thick with crystal malt, a bit of candy sweetness, toasted malts and a hint of herbal, perhaps spicy hops. The taste is sweet up front, and stays that way as it finishes with a heavy handed crystal malt caramel notes. There is a bit of bitterness in the finish that helps to balance this malt dominated brew. This beer has a medium full body contributed by the malt. The biggest problem with this beer is that it is a bit simplistic, though admittedly this is a pretty weak problem. This beer is pretty straight forward, and I almost think that a beer with this many malt & caramel notes would more fittingly be a low alcohol session brew.

Clear copper boddy, with small particles in suspension. Small diminishing head, leaving a small ring of lace. Caramel, toffee, malt, candied nut, faint floral hops in the nose. These malty flavors follow through to the palate, as well as a rusty, tin, metallic flavor, light body, with a resinous, pine needle, grapefruit pith finish. Alcohol is hidden very well. This is sort of one dimensional as duff says.....but I do like the drinkability and the subtle nuances.

It’s OK. You can’t taste the alcohol. Wants to be an amber, but not hoppy enough. Kinda middle-of-the-road in a solid sort of way. Not carbonated enough.
