This ale contains no actual copper but we’re pretty literal... It looked coppery, so we lamely called it a copper ale. Lots’a nice caramel malt though... Originally 5.9% alcohol by volume, currently

Poured a clear copper color with a big, frothy, light tan head and a slight amount of carbonation. Good lacing left on the glass all the way down. Had aromas of butterscotch, a bit of syrup and vanilla, and malt. Was really sweet and malty all the way down. The mouthfeel was slick and sticky, and a butterscotch aftertaste lingered for a while. A must try for malt lovers!

July 4th, 2012 - Happy 4th of July! Well, belatedly. This is a year and a half old review, but better late than never, right? Lagunitas’ rich copper ale is a rich, shaggy, late red ale, with tons of sweet apple skin scenes and a nice chalkiness, The flavor is equally rich and fruity with light strawberry and mango. The flavor is malty in depth and breadth, with much of the husk and sweetness of a good loaf of friend, and with a yeastiness I am beginning to recognize across Lagunitas’ beers. It fills the mouth and palate, and stands by itself, independent and stalwart. This is an ale that demands isolation, and focus, with its richness and palate domination.

Pours a slightly hazy copper from a bottle with a quickly dissipating thin white head, a little lacing. Toffee notes in the nose, but not overly sweet as many ambers tend. Actually ends on a nice bitter hop note, takes you on a little journey. Very good beer.

Almost clear copper pour with a slight chill haze. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Light nice nose of rich malt (biscuit, caramel) with a slight nuttiness, floral notes and very subtle hints of prunes/dates. As it warms, bready notes become evident. Nice light medium body that is quite smooth in texture. Normal carbonation level with a subtle middle effervescence and a stronger finish. The laid back flavor profile is outstanding and quite complex. It begins with rich bready malt that has caramel underneath. The middle delivers the strongest sweetness, which is moderate and well balanced with a very subtle tea like floral bitterness. Tea hop flavor is also present in the middle. After the middle, the flavor takes on a slightly nutty baked bread character that hints at being ever so slightly over baked. As the finish approaches, the dark fruits arrive and assume the forefront - dates initially that flow to prunes. The finish is a slow slightly sweet fade of caramel and prune.

Bottle at Len. Deep dark amber, cloudy, fine head. Citrus nose, grass, grapefruit, apple. Light earth and caramel. Balanced malt flavor, ok hops. Not bad, but unexciting.
