LiebeBier (734), RIchmond, Virginia, USA Apr 26, 2008 Draft - A copper colored beer with minimal head. Malty sweet aroma. Very malty with caramel flavor. For me its too sweet and it actually tastes like more alcohol is present than the beer really has.
Guinness4Duff (429), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottle. Copper pour with an off white head. Has a strong sweet caramel malt aroma. Strong caramel flavor as well that sits overtop a nice underlying bitterness. Not bad. RunDWP (110), San Jose, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 Copper color, with thin white head. Roasted malt flavor, with nice dry hos bitterness at the finish. I didn’t detect much sweetness in the malt. Sharp and crisp for an ale. A bit astringent, which for me was a good thing. Would go well with a nice juicy burger. robforbes (641), Bremerton, Washington, USA Jul 18, 2008 pours a clear amber with a light tan head, good lacing.
smell is really faint, some fruit, some caramel, some malt.
taste is sweet fruit, some hops, touch of caramel, a little metallic, as it warms grain and malt. Gypsy19 (163), AMERICA RISING, USA Jul 17, 2008 This is a really good, unique ale. Sort of a cross between an IPA and a weak belgian. Taste is hoppy and bitter, but a sweet palate rounds it out nicely. Kicks pretty fast too, even though less than 6%. Recommended. Won’t disappoint. DrBayern (883), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Jul 16, 2008 12 oz. bottle on 7/16/08.
Aroma - Lots of malt based aroma - toasty grain, caramel, burnt sugar. Some earthiness and spice follows.
Appearance - Coppery amber, medium off white to beige head that settles quickly, fair lace.
Flavor - Leans toward bitterness quickly, supported by a sturdy caramel sweetness, moderately dry finish.
Palate - medium body, light carbonation, faintly syrupy initially, but giving way to some astringency and drying bitterness.
Overall- Quite tasty, lots of flavor, probably better with the right food, some smoked fish or hearty beef dishes, than by itself.
