UPDATED: JAN 25, 2009 22oz bottle. Honestly, I like it just for being a Chocolate Pepper Stout. Deep brown with stained glass red borders. Minimal head and carbonation. Rich and creamy, full of chocolate syrup taste. The hops and peppercorns intermingle quite mellow and pleasantly, giving the beer a unique balance. Unique stuff, captures some Zappitude. Imperial Shwarz beer?

650 ml. Translucent chestnut with garnet tinges. Faint dry cocoa and roast nut aromas lurk underneath the long-lived, half-inch head. Tastes of raisin, chocolate, coffee, caramel, and peppery oak. Medium-heavy body is smooth with light carbonation, slightly tingly, and roasty dry.

22 oz bottle. Pours a thickly bubbled tan head with good duration, over a very dark brown body.....nose of roasted malts, mild coffee and some chocolate overtones....tastes initially of malts then evolving into chocolate and coffee, with a bitter coffee type finish ending in a touch of sweet.....creamy mouth feel. The pepper is very subtle and is involved only near the ending flavors and detectable as a slight bite in the finish.

Tasted on tap at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 12/6/2008. This stout pours a medium black color from the tap. Small to medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, with a hint of pepper. A medium to light bodied stout. Malts are chocolate and coffee. A touch of pepper is evident. There are some nice chocolate flavors in the middle. Fairly smooth tasting. A somewhat complex stout without being all that big in flavor. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Portland Holiday Ale Fest 2008. I didnt really dig this, had a bit of a vegi and artichoke taste to it. Pours dark brown with a soft brown head. Mild roast, dark chocolate. The pepper is very subtle, sort of blended into the bitter finish with a mineral-like mouthfeel.

Strong malt aroma with a light amount of alcohol. Dark amber color with a medium tan head. Chocolate malt beginning with a slight amount of pepper bitterness. Finish gets sweeter with hints of brown sugar. Creamy palate.
