Great piny aroma with strong underpinnings of grapefruit. Orange amber color with very little head. Starts with pine and malt proceeding through nice grapefruit hop which finally removes the malt Great trip to the end. This is so good!!!

from bottle. the aroma makes you yhink you might be in for a IPA hop blast, but the taste is actually balanced among estery fruitiness, hop bitterness and a full mounth sweetness. english/irish ale yeast, perhaps? very mild use of columbus/summit with some saaz at flame out, perhaps? or maybe something completely different entirely... does this brew come with a hit of psychotropic substances? maybe a little of that undercover shutdown ale that they were reluctant to put into bottles? or maybe that’s just the awesome bottle artwork. very unique and delicious.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Hangover (938) - Atlanta, USA - AUG 23, 2006
Clear copper pour with a smallish white head. Pine hops upfront in the aroma with some citrus and a whiff of booze. Medium bodied. Interesting taste. Fruity taste with some orange zest and a touch of sweetness. Malts come through in the middle and into the finish. Sweet, bitter finish, slightly resinous and nicely balanced. This is a good IPA for sure and I agree that the bottle art is pretty kick ass... and at 3 bucks a 22oz.. that’s worth an extra point.

Bottle. Clear, medium amber colored with medium sized, white head sitting atop the liquid. Very appealing lacing left behind. Aroma is slightly fruity, a bit of citrus blossom and faint sugars. Medium bodied and somewhat coating. Flavors are faint citrus with some floral presence. Some sweetness to balance a moderate level of bitterness. IBU’s linger faintly. Pretty tame, but quite nicely done.

Holy Zappa has it been 40 years since this album came out? This IPA pours a orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is piney and herbal (I’m thinking summit hops here), a touch of sweetness and some orange. A medium to full bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are piney and grapefruity with a touch of tobacco and peppers. Lots of hop flavors without a lot of hop bitterness. I mean it hoppy (it couldn’t be a Lagunitas beer without being hoppy could it?) but the hops are nicely balanced by a lot of malt sweetness. This beer has some weight to it. Nice beer. Cool label. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. Does Lagunitas have their own airline yet?

Bottle. Amber beer with an off-white head. Low fruity aroma. Citrus and summer fruit flavor with a big earthiness that lingers. Medium body. Some resin.

right when i saw this brew in the fridge at safeway hidden behind a bunch of other crap brews that ive had a million times i knew i was buying it. i saw the label and was like WHAT. i guess theyre celebrating the 40th year anniversary of zappa’s first album. pretty ill. the brew is pretty good also. seems like it lacks a little soul tho. like theres something missing that i cant put my finger on. smells of light blueberry and chocolate. appearance is pretty weak. propz to lagunitas for releasing this one tho.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 raphael (665) - Portland, Oregon, USA - AUG 12, 2006
hoppy smell, with marijuana and a little pepper. given the fairly light amber color, thicker than expected, while smooth & quick in the mouth. head a bit thin. astringent taste, good balance of hops and malt, a little smokiness in back. great label.
