3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Suttree (3928) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 6, 2010
Black, or maybe more of a very dark red. Decent head. Ever had, like a grapefruit and cup of coffee for breakfast? Well, that’s pretty much what you’ve got here...

Tap, The Burger Bar at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. Ruby with a creamy white head and lacework aplenty. Soggy biscuit and Turkish delight aroma with some good musky hop behind it. Full of hop floweriness, orange skin and lemon zest with a balancing crumb of nut. Tasty but a touch one-dimensional.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JCB (3117) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 23, 2010
On tap at City Beer, SF. The pour reminded me of a kind of port wine, with a modest head, and overall I found it nothing too impressive to look at. The nose was average, with the roasted malts fairly understated and not much else signifying any character. The taste was also underwhelming, with only moderate bitterness and not too much hop character. I’d put it somewhere just slightly south of Krunkles.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hopscotch (7542) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 13, 2010
Growler… Clear, dark ruby ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose offers subtle dark-roasted grains and hints of cocoa and pine. Light to medium-bodied and mildly creamy with tingly carbonation. The flavor leans bitter and lightly singed. Crisp, medium bitter, grassy finish.

On tap at the Freakin Frog. Pours black with a thin beige head and a treacle aroma. There is a sweet molasses flavor and a little carbonation with a dry bitter finish.

Tap: Pours a deep brown with a tan film. Aroma has molases, chocolate and some mild plasticy phenols. Sweet flavor with chocoloate and molasses. Too much maltose and not enough hops. Eh.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20 joeneugs (1618) - Livermore, California, USA - SEP 15, 2010
Pours clear brownish amber with a large off white head. The aroma is very sweet with a touch of brown sugar, molasses and fruity hops. The flavor is cloyingly sweet with hints of cocoa, molasses, and brown sugar. I was dissapointed in the lack of hop punch in this. Only mild bitterness in the finish. Not really a black IPA.
