Lagunitas enlisted a mix of members from bands and music & beer sites to not only brew CouchTrippin’ Fusion Ale, but create a special variation of it for each show. Bands included Allen Stone, The Mowgli’s and Tumbleweed Wanderers. Plus beer minds from DC Beer, Beer Street Journal, Kim’s Bay Brews and Good Beer Hunting; and music-centric folks from FILTER Magazine, Brightest Young Things and Consequence of Sound. CouchTrippin’ Fusion Ale is dry-hopped with Nelson Sauvin and Mosaic hops.

Lagunitas hitting a home run here. Not quite brown in color, but hitting all the marks for a nice malty beer. All the way around, a beautiful and tasty beer.

Couch trippin Petaluma: Draft at Lagunitas. Typical amber color, but a different beast altogether. Low hops. something akin to a manhattan. I beleive they said it was barreled, and it tastes like a hybrid cocktail/beer. Not bad, but not up to par with their fresh hoppy goodnes

Keep this experiment back in the tester! Brown ruddy color, translucent, oyster head, good lacing. Way to ruin a brown ale! It could be decent if it wasn’t dry-hopped, although perhaps it was flawed from the beginning. Typically lagunitas hoppiness, although it’s all wrong in this recipe. No malt backbone because they didn’t want to over-ferment it. Keep out hops!! Begone!

A- Pours a brownish red hue with a fizzy, eggshell head that sticks around for quite a while. S- Slightly roasty, indistinct sweetness. T- Roasted malt, hints of orange, fairly one dimensional. Some light residual sweetness on the back end. M- Medium bodied with ample carbonation. D- Fairly easy drinker. Sessionable but not something I would choose over any other beer from lagunitas.

Draft at Publik House. Pours a clear copper color with a thin white head. Roasted malt in the note with a hint of brown sugar. Very light bodied and smooth finish. Not much punch that Lagunitas normally has but a nice, light brew!

Dark brown white head. Malty nose, rich flavor a bit alcohol presence. OK but not a classic.

Tap @ Meridian Pint. Deep brown pour with a moderate tan head. A bit of chocolate busted bread, some pine and red berry on the nose. Citrus hop. The taste has some roasted pine bitterness. Cocoa and a bit of jam. Medium body, active carbonation. A solid hoppy brown number.

On tap 4 oz. sample at the Lost Dog Cafe in Merrifield, VA. Clear, rusty red-brown with a creamy khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruit, chocolate, toffee and wet leaves. Taste of citrus, dank earthy hops, chocolate and caramel. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
