This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

Bottled sample. Pours with a dark copper colour and off white head. Grapefruit flavours with malty notes. Oily texture with hoppy bitterness in the finish.

1pint bottle from The Beer Store Wilson. Copper colored hue, good clarity (can see through glass), with somewhat lasting light brown fizzy head. Decent lacing. Strong citrus hop, some sweet floral, light malt and pine aromas. Light bitter orange citrus hop and some floral taste up front with a grapefruit and lemon peel finish. Once it sits for a bit more of a floral taste mixed with citrus hop dominates the taste. Lively carbonation, dry texture on the palate.

Pours a clear golden copper color with a rich, tan, well-retaining head. Some light toffee aromas are barely noted through the monster west coast hop profile. Wet mouthfeel with moderately harsh hop heat. Toasted malt does all it can to adequately provide a backbone for this hop giant. But it brought a knife to a gunfight.

Really nice, smooth and refreshing. Nicely balanced and not too hoppy or bitter.

This beer smelled very hoppy yet the taste was mostly a thick yet smooth malt. Nice heavy palate with a sizeable head. Hints of caramel and slightly boozy.

Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale has a thin, off-white head, a semi-clear, rust-red appearance, bubble streams, lots of white, cottony sediment, and some lace curtain left behind. The aroma is of pink grapefruit, medium-roasted malts, and bread crust. Taste is of those elements, with sweetness and a touch of yeast. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Lagunitas Imperial Red Ale finishes semi-dry and quite refreshing. No alcohol pick-up in the flavor. RJT

Poured from 1pint 6fl oz bottle. Clear, amber brown with full off-white-to-beige head. Grassy and piney hops with caramel and toffee malt backing. Medium body.

Beautiful red color, with plenty of head. Looks really good in a glass, with the white head fueled by the dancing bubbles making their way up. Good aroma. First sip resulted in a white mustache and a pleasant warm sensation. It is extremely smooth and the carbonation clears the pallet quickly. I normally consider this as a bad thing, but for this beer it just begs me to take another sip.

A really extraordinary red ale. Tons of flavor from caramel and honey to buttered toast and butterscotch. Perfect hop-malt balance. Pours a rich golden with a medium head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
