This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

Malty, slightly resiny nose. Beautiful burnt orange color. Interesting balance between toasty, malty sweetness and resiny, grassy hops. Overall, it looks great and tastes good, but not really a huge fan.

Bottle. Dark amber, half finger head. Smells of sweet apple, hops. Taste is bitter and bubbley up front, a nice hop bite and sweetness to finish it off. Has a nice finish, can feel the hops in the throat. A good beer, haven't had anything quite like it. A nice IBU for hopheads like me.

From bottle to tulip. Beautiful looking reddish gold brown color. Aroma was spicy with hops. I am saying it is a good beer but not my style. I prefer IPAs and belgiums over an american ale.

Bottle. Amber color with a Medium slightly creamy body. Aroma of rich floral hops, pine, caramel malt, & some fruit. Flavor of sweet malt, caramel, pine hops, citrus, and spice. Finish is slightly bitter. I donít taste the ABV too much. Nicely balanced.

12oz bottle from my brother. Pint glass. Appearance: Pours an amber hue wih nice clarity. A one finger beige head. Leaves a ring of rentention. Spotty lacing. Aroma: Citrus and piney hops. Caramel malts. Taste: Citrusy, somewhat sweet hops. A little bit of piney bitterness. Excellent balance with smooth caramel malts. Mouthfeel: Smooth creamy, Perfect mouthfeel. Medium bodied with good carbonation and a lingering hoppy yet balanced finish. The malts and hops just blend seamlessly. This is truly a beer with balance. Will probably buy my own sixer of this.

Bottle. I really enjoyed this one. Way to go, Lagunitas! Sugar hop scent over an amber pour with a foamy head, slight lacing. Medium body, semi sticky. Hop forward taste, slightly bitter, with a sweetness in the middle, and a grapefruit finish. Excellent!

(bottle). Aroma of full hops and caramel. Great deep amber complexion with longlasting head and lacing. Nice hop-malt balance mellowed with caramel sweetness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 20, 2012 Pours orangey and average head. Smell is initially piney and mustard-seed from the bottle, but it becomes more floral and refreshing in the glass - good. Taste is sweet (hey, itís Lagunitas!), peach mostly, and some potent ABV. Fruity, but still ale-like, and not artificial at all. Like this one - a welcome change of pace from my usual IPA, APA, and Belgian biases, even if it isnít quite mind-blowing.
