COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. Deep amber body, small off-white head. Aroma is pine, licorice, melon, peaches, hints of alcohol and red berries. Taste is licorice, pine, grass, alcohol and hints of herbs. Mellow and pleasant. Full body, medium to soft carbonation. A pretty decent ASA.

Bottle. Old school beer here, gotta love shit that came out in the mid 90s. Pours a hazy amber with 1-2 inched of tan head. Tasting notes were heavy bitter hopping, citrus, flower, grass, light malt. Perfect amount of carbonation for the style. Finishes nicely with slight warming in the gut. Solid beer from Lagunitas.

I admit that I am biased against reds, as I have never had one that I enjoyed. I approached this with an open mind. The pour was clear and attractive, but the palate seemed to fade quickly in my bottles. The aroma was hoppy, but not distinctive. I would recommend this beer to anyone who enjoys this style.

Aged near one year. Pours red copper with off white lasting fizz. The aroma is so similar to much of lagunitas’s line, see lightly caramel grains and a light citrus earthy floral hop. The taste is once again similar with a more malty lean to this one. Slight grapefruit pear and floral hops. Very smooth and easy to drink. Goes down quickly. Almost a drying finish but slick enough to keep the grainy sugars around to outlast the hop flavors. Really nice overall, they know how to make a smooth hoppy brew.

12oz bottle (2012 release) served in a Unibroue snifter. Pours a deep orange-amber color, hazy, with a small sudsy head that is mostly short-lived. Leaves a moderate amount of lacing on the glass. The medium strength aroma features citric hops with a very solid, medium malt base. The malts are also obvious on the tongue. Overall, the balance is tilted towards the hops in the aroma and towards the malts in tasting. Mildly bitter early on and through the finish. The flavor include suggestions of biscuits, oranges, candied grapefruit, caramel and some faint herbs. Medium body and carbonation. O: Easily recommended; very good balance and mix of flavors. Inferior in most respects, however, to the bigger and more expensive Lagunitas Lucky 13 red.

0.355l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This is a light blurry deep bronze-amber colored beer with a lacing quickly sidesticking off-white top. A bit sugary sweet on the aroma with hops, some fruity stock, melon and a leathery hint. Smells quite alright this. It’s quite average on the carbonation with a oily mouthfeel. Light sticky, loads of fruits and caramel. Also some traces of alcohol and melon zest. Quite a tasty little one this, but again my experiences with Lagunitas is that it lacks a bit of freshness. Could be the fact that this is not a fresh bottle... 05.01.2012

Bottle from drabmuh. Thanks Matt. The beer is golden orange with a half inch of tan head. Good retention and plenty of lacing. The aroma offers a bouquet of citrus, followed by malt and a bit of alcohol. Nice flavor. Hop forward, but still a strong malty foundation. Balanced and enjoyable. Medium bodied with a light bitterness in the finish. Overall, this was a pleasant surprise. I definitely see a sixer of this in my future. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 05-28-2012

Pours a beautiful amber gold with a creamy tan white head. Nose is hops and flowers. Creamy on the palate, the taste is rich and full of hops with a soft malt backbone. Not overly bitter. Pairs well with barbequed ribs.

Pours a dark orange red with about a finger head. Aroma is sweet with cherries and what seems to be a hint of brown sugar followed by mild hops. Taste is also on the sweet fruit side and mild hops. Can taste the malt in a postive way. Very smooth, a perfect fall beer. Light to medium body.
