This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

The idea of an imperial red really doesn’t appeal to me, and this bares that out. Too hoppy and one dimensional for my liking.

22 oz. Bottle. Aroma had a destint pine to it. Also had a wet dish rag aroma as well. Amber body maybe even orange tiynt with off white foamy head. Good lacing left on glass. Real thin body but that didnt take away from the good grapefruit citrus flavor. No alcohol presence to speak of. Refreshing beer that left a citrus peel aftertaste on the palate.

Poured a clear ruby with a creamy off-white head. Clean aroma of strong pine and grapefruit hops with a bit of sweetness. Flavor is straight-forward hops, dominated by pine and slightly backed up by grapefruit. Only a mild grainy sweetness is there to back up the bitterness. No alcohol flavor. Not an especially fully body, but adequate. Nice clean hop aroma and flavor make this a nice double red.

Bottle from DarkElf. Pours a clear, deep ruby hued amber. Nice whitish head forms and fades very slowly but never competely disappearing. Good lacing is left behind. Medium to full bodied, fairly smooth with a mellow carbonation. Aroma is fully malty, sweet caramel, perhaps a touch of fruitiness. Flavor runs about the same. Lingering hop finish is pleasant and a bit unexpected. Seemingly more bitter than 40 IBU. Nicely done.

Pours with a yellowish head, dark amber in color, good carbonation. Smells of hops with citrus tones. Good malt flavor followed by a hoppy finish. Medium thick mouth feel.

Appearance is reddish with a decent head. Taste is fairly strong hops up front finished with a malt backbone and some more hops in the finish. Remains smooth and drinkable throughout. Pleasant strong ale, recommended for hopheads who want something other than an IPA for a change.

Thanks to gputty for bringing this by to share. Reddish amber, beige head. Citrusy grapfruit nose. Flavor is more grapefruity hops, rather bitter, with a mildly sweet malt background. Peppery citrus finish.

Bomber bottle. Clear and copper colored with a thick head. Heady aroma with a strong astringent pine scent. A bit light in body for a beer with a good bit of alcholol and maltiness. The lingering malt diminshes with a flat and tart hop finish.

From bomber. Pours a deep ruby red with small off-white head. Light floral nose followed up by a biting citrus hop flavor with lots of bitter, despite the 40 IBU rating.

Tap at Toronado. Quite nice. Just the right amount of hops that does not overpower eveything else. Fairly complex aromas and flavor of hops and malts. Pours red with a fairly faint head.
