COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

Courtesy of Pailhead. Pours amber with decent white head. Huge pine and citrus hop aroma. Initial flavor is all sweet caramel malt but fades to sticky citrus hops. Very well balanced. Very enjoyable/drinkable strong ale. Not overdone in any aspect.

beer pours a lightly chill-hazed reddish amber with a pretty good white head that retains well and leaves good lace. nose is a pretty big combo of grapefruit/citrus American hops, and sweet, sticky caramel malts. maybe a wayward ester or 2 underneath. flavor is where it starts to get messy - the big, big citrus hops don’t play well with the sweet/sticky caramel malt flavors. the beer gets heavier (syrupy) as you drink it. just a lot of big flavors, inharmoniously delivered.

Garnet body beaneath a foamy off-white head that left a moderate trail of lacing. The aroma was grapefruit hops, malty caramel, and toasted bread. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation. The flavor was sweet caramel malt and citrusy hops with a warm alcohol feel. A decent beer.

Aroma of strawberry, malt, grassy hops, light pine. Appears hazy red-orange, with a small white head that dissipates but leaves lacing, and with light effervescence of slowly-rising smallish bubbles. Flavor is hop-assertive, with a slightly sweet follow-up and a finishing presence of strawberry, likely carried through from the nose; some resinous character but not overpowering. Palate is medium-light with medium-heavy effervescence that carries the hop and strawberry finish. Overall, this was a most satisfying brew that certainly exceeded my expectations and that was easily greater than the sum of its parts.

A nice dark amber/reddish hue, with a very nice looking head and lacing. Mostly a hoppy aroma, with plenty of malt backbone to balance. A very tasty beer, and an excellent deal at $2.99 for a bomber where I bought it.

Wow, what a good looking brew! Tight beaded, medium statured tan head rides atop a clear amber/orange body. Lacing is sticky and web like, lasting. Light earthyness in the nose along with pine and citrus notes as well. malt aromas are light and biscuity. Body is med/full, creamy and lightly chewy. Mildly sweet malts, caramel, gentle graininess. Hops work well with the malt bill, gently piney and citrusy, lightly resiny with a damn nice fruitiness. Finish is mildly sweet, lasting and a nice crack of the hop whip. Well balanced. Good looks, good flavors and an easy drinkability. I had high hopes or this brew and was not dissapointed. Very nice! Lagunitas does a helluva job ! Thanks to DarkElf for another neat experience!

Big fresh hop nose – wow! Ruddy amber color with a beige head. Creamy caramelly malt body, heavy and powerful. Hop punch that is distinctly West Coast. Very flavourful and well balanced

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2006 Pours a clear darker copper with a frothy well-lacing white head. Fresh, green hoppy aroma has a nice caramel malty balance. Starts semi-sweet and toasty turning more dry and slightly over-attenuated with a lightly warming bitter finish. Pretty true to style, balanced and enjoyable.

I was expecting a huge hop bomb of a beer for some reason and was met with an easy drinking well balanced brew. Malty with an almost ice tea like nose. Medium bodied and well balanced leaning to the malt side just a hair. Very enjoyable
