12oz bottle. red brown color with amber hues and an off white head that quickly disperses. big california hop aroma. loads of citrusy hops and a touch of caramel. pineapple, mango, potpourri, and floral hops. like a red ale calirfornia style.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Flaska från systemet - maltig doft, lite mörkare och något grumlig. Komplex maltig smak och en fyllig kropp.

Really nice, smooth and refreshing. Nicely balanced and not too hoppy or bitter.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear dark amber with good rich head. Grapefruit, pine, and caramel. Hops dominate. Alcohol makes its presence right before the strong bitter finish. Medium to full body.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle poured into a sam adams laser etched glass.
Appearance: The creamy and thick 2 finger beige head looks amazing but I’m not digging the auburn color of this imperial red. I’d be much more attracted to a redder color such as that of green flash hop head red.
Smell: A wonderful floral bouquet of hops! Not overbearing by any means but deliciously hypnotizing. Some underlying cascade hop grapefruit quality to it.
Taste: An initial hop bitterness leads into a strong amount of sweet malt followed by a bitter finish. The malt isn’t as aggressive as the bitter hopping but its well defined none the less.
Mouthfeel: Much to syrupy for my tastes. Decent amount of carbonation helps me to get it down but the mouthfeel is the least impressive feature of this brew so far.
Drinkability: 3.5 because of my feelings about the mouthfeel.
This is a delicious beer but its too syrupy and a bit too full bodied for me.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2007 Not as strong or syrupy as i was expecting. A very nice hop scent and taste of hops, hay and celery with slight spices and a very fruity malty balance. Medium body with a crisp yet smooth palate. Finishes a bit flowery but not overwhelming. The finish could be longer and more pronounced.

Very sticky. nice red color with a cool off white head. super sweet. made me want to put it on pancakes. tons of caramel and toffee with some oak backing. hops seemed a little in the back, probably an older bottle. nice rounded mouthfeel though. i wish lagunitas would put a bottle date on their labels.... the verdict: too sweet for me but nice enough!

I really like this brew. It goes down so nice with Mexican. Good fruit on the nose, nice malt with terrific bitter hop finish. Great color too.

12oz bottle poured a clear light red color with a nice off white head. Aroma of hops, mild sweetness and a touch of roastiness. Flavor was nicley balanced with a smooth hop flavor that mellowed to an array of specialty malts

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
First off, this beer smells fantastic. Its got a very pleasant citrus with orange hints. I’m guessing amarillo aroma or dry hops, but I’ve been wrong before. Very malty and bitter, well balanced in its huge flavors. Its very similar to arrogant bastard, but less estery. This is another winner from Lagunitas as far as I’m concerned.
