This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

First off, this beer smells fantastic. Its got a very pleasant citrus with orange hints. I’m guessing amarillo aroma or dry hops, but I’ve been wrong before. Very malty and bitter, well balanced in its huge flavors. Its very similar to arrogant bastard, but less estery. This is another winner from Lagunitas as far as I’m concerned.

This was good. It poured a dark gold with a nice head. The sweet malt came in first, coating the mouth, followed by a strong hop finish. It seemed fuller bodied and stronger than a typical Red.

Deep, dark ruby, hue with healthy ecru chapeau. Big aroma of sweet grapefruity hops, caramel malt, and spice. Thick flavors of berry preserves (strawberry?), sweet and balanced with the acidity of hop resins. Refreshing finish with juciy hops lingering on the tongue. Redolent of the juicy hop beers the brewery produces. Satisfying and very well built. Try with young Stilton, and sheeps milk cheeses with pate. 92A

Bottle->snifter: Pours an average, off-white, diminishing head that exhibits fair lacing atop a dark brown body. Heavy malt aroma with an average aroma of hops. The body is full, texture gritty, and the carbonation average, finishing astringently. The flavor’s duration is short, moderately acidic, and heavily bitter. Yes, I’m a fan.

12 oz bottle. Nice frothy head and a pleasant hop aroma with bits of citrus, pine and toffee. Very sweet malt backbone that really took away from the experience for me. A bit cloying which seems to be the norm for these styles. A rich caramel component that went well with a bit of the biscuit present was about the only component I could get into. Overall, seemed out of sorts and not very well balanced. Really not my cup of tea.

Flaska från Systembolaget. Bärnstensfärgad vätska med vitt skum. Doftar stort humligt. Kraftig humlearomatisk smak. Riktigt kraftig

Brown our with a single finger of off white foam. Nice malts with hint of hoppiness. Flavor is well balanced and smooth with a mixture malts and hops that goes down easy. This is one of the better Imperial Reds I have had. Definitely a buy when seen.

Big aroma of pine trees, and batteries. (don’t ask me it just does) Sharp and stinging mouthfeel. Malts just can’t keep up with the hoppiness, and if they do it’s sticky sweet and mushy. This feels badly put together. From reading the other reviews I get the sense that I am not the only one who feels disappointed with this below average offering. Oh well, I applaud Lagunitas for always attemping new and unusual brews. You guys help make the beer world a little more interesting.

Poured to glass...appearance is a clear amber color with not much of a head. So so on the lacing. Aroma is delightful, fresh strawberries, hops and pine. Slightly bitter taste with a long hoppy finish. Enjoyable beer from one of my favorite brewers. Would recommend.

Mmmm. Lots of familiar lagunitas aroma. Hop flavor and a tailend of malty sweetness. Very familar. 3.99!!!!! Worth picking up again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
