COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum.

pours a dark cloudy apple cider red with a one finger white head that does not last too long. aroma is heavy hops with some malt, pine, and orange peel. has a medium body with ok lacing and descent carbonation. flavor is sweet malt and heavy hops with some orange peel and a touch of pine and has a dry hop aftertaste. this is a very awsome impy red and is way better than there ipa and equal to if not better than maximus. i noticed it having a little mango aroma and flavor as it warms, and the hops is stronger as well.cheers!

First off, this beer smells fantastic. Its got a very pleasant citrus with orange hints. Iím guessing amarillo aroma or dry hops, but Iíve been wrong before. Very malty and bitter, well balanced in its huge flavors. Its very similar to arrogant bastard, but less estery. This is another winner from Lagunitas as far as Iím concerned.

Poured from a 12oz bottle a deep dark copper with a tan head. Aroma is all malts with a piney/citrus hops lingering in the background. Flavor is wonderfully malty with caramel and citrus hop bite.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear reddish amber with a thin off-white head. Hoppy aroma with some malty caramel sweetness and a touch of alcohol. Very crisp with a malty sweet flavor up front and a big hop finish. Fantastic beer.

Pours redder than a fat chickís menstruation. Deep in color, and capped off with a great head and fair lacing. Rich with sweet malt, but perfectly balanced with some bitter and citrus-infested hops. Alcohol is hidden extremely well, which is probably why my first time drinking it resulted in mexican food at 2am and a great nightís sleep on the bathroom floor.

Bottle->snifter: Pours an average, off-white, diminishing head that exhibits fair lacing atop a dark brown body. Heavy malt aroma with an average aroma of hops. The body is full, texture gritty, and the carbonation average, finishing astringently. The flavorís duration is short, moderately acidic, and heavily bitter. Yes, Iím a fan.

Deep amber to mahogany in color with a milky head. Smells richly of dark caramel malts with notes of burnt sugar and raisins. Has a barley wine character. Smooth and sweet on the tip of the tongue fading into a luscious, sugary caramel-rich flavor. Ample bitterness and hops round this one out. Itís like a younger, lighter, more limber barley wine. Similar to a Scottish Ale but sharper. Not as complex as an Old Ale. Exactly what I look for in a Red Ale and exactly what I expected of an Imperial. Smooth on the palate not spritzy or syrupy but just right.

I love this beer. Lagunitas does what they do best - a huge citrus/spice hop explosion up front and then a thick carmel-y, malt backbone to put out the fire. The beautiful thing is how the hop flavor lingers through the maltiness. A little thick to session, but I always try my best!

Wow, floral hop nose and I wasnít even smelling for it. Clear, brilliant dark copper patina color. The head is thick and white but not the biggest. It does last though. This beer drinks like a meal. Iím no longer hungry. Lagunitas should show this to the monks. Its really malty but even more bitter. The hops win 2 out of 3 on this one. It leaves a white blanket on the glass as any good beer should. Ultimately, itís satisfying since 1993 apparently, right next to my Copenhagen. Every person who drinks pale lagers regularly should be forced to drink this for a week. They would never go back again. Yes, this beer will break you of shitty beers if you give it just a few days.
