Commercial Description:
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum. O.G. 1.072 84.2 IBU

12 oz bottle from Hyde Park Express (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark red mahogany brown with a one finger tan head. Some retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, maple syrup, some hops, brown sugar. Not much head retentin but some significant lacing. Flavor is both malty and hoppy with notes of oats, raisins, some hints of brandy and hops. Generally light to medium body with a slighty sweet, slightly bitter finish.

Stubby 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Copper-amber color with a thick tan head. Lots of lacing. Aroma is mainly citrus hops, with a very tangy character, and caramel malt. Flavor is the same. Sweet and substantial malt base, orangey grapefruity hops, and a slight metallic note. Piney bitterness takes the edge off the sappy sweetness. Finish is a little dirty/sticky, body is a couple shades over medium.

12 oz. Clear red-copper with a lasting half-inch of foam. Crunchy soap rings of lace. Nice caramel-grapefruit and nut aroma. Flavor is a tad more bipolar and harsh than the aroma suggests: caramel apple that turns to tea leaf and berry, and eventually is completely finished by grapefruit, tongue depressor and nutty-resin. Still, overall a tasty brew. Near-medium body is a little too frothy for me, and very woody-dry on the finish.

bottle - Pours deep amber with a one finger light tan head. It has a rich malt aroma with some cherry notes. The flavor is of caramel malt with nice fruity hop tones. This medium bodied brew has good bitterness in the finish. Well done.

Bottle. Pours the color of a lightly tarnished penny with a minimal tan head. Dense aromas of nutty malt and slight hops dominate, but toffee and earth tones are there, too. Heavy sweetness dominates the flavor... a bit of a caramel, toffee sticky sweetness. A little bit of nut and wood are there, too. Finish is fairly sweet and sticky.

Bottle pours a clear dark copper color with a thin beige head. Although the head is thin it produces nice lacing along the glass. The aroma is hoppy with pineapple overtones. Flavor includes roasted caramel malts to go along with all the hops. Nice bitterness in the finish!

Taste 12/8 Bottle. Looks: Clear dark brown color. Aroma:Malty, nutty and wood. Taste: While the aroma is muted dark tones, the taste is vibrant. Very malty red with a nice smooth bitterness. Alcohol presence is mild. A nice yeasty flavor that I like. It balances the malt well. I like it above the current 3.71/94 percentile.

Bottle. Medium sized ivory semi-fizzy head that lacked good retention, transparent, fair amount of lacing, lively, fast rising carbonation, and an orange hue. The aroma was malt, caramel, hoppy, pine, and citrus. Ditto for the flavor along with a dry finish. Tingly mouthfeel and medium bodied. A very nice balanced beer that was easy and enjoyable to drink, not overly hoppy tasting, worthy of a try, and a beer that I would drink again.
