JoeNovice (11), USA Mar 30, 2008 A very decent Red. This is a great tap beer. Hoppy but not overbearing. Enough malt to counter the hops. Killians on growth hormones. SHANER4 (370), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Mar 26, 2008 Poured reddish black color from a 12 oz. bottle with a medium head that quickly faded, nice webing on glass! Has a great malty aroma and also reminded me of a candy sucker. Taste is quite nice with huge sweet malty backbone with a silky smooth mouthfeel. Finish is damn good, subtle hop flavor with bitter dry finish. Overall this beer is excellent, my 2nd beer from Lagunitas and both were top notch. beerbill (1920), Laurel, New York, USA Mar 16, 2008 22 oz. bottle courtesy of Secret Santa. Pours a cloudy brown (where’s the red?) with a thin tan head that lasted through about two-thirds of the glass and left some spotty lacing. The aroma reminded me of an IPA with notes of grapefruit and some caramel. The flavor is caramel up front with some brown sugar sweetness and some grapefruit as well. Not nearly as bitter as the hoppy aroma would suggest, which is just fine with me. Nice caramel smoothness in the mouthfeel. Enjoyable. Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Mar 16, 2008 Ølbaren 2008.03.11 - Thanks Ungstrup for buying med this one :) Copper-red with a huge, nice and creamy head. The aroma has the typical Lagunitas profile in the choice of hops and malt. The flavour has sweetness, notes of malt, caramel, hops and a dry, grapefruit-like bitterness. joshwilfong (771), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Mar 14, 2008 Updated: Mar 15, 2008reddish brown appearance with white head. great flavor with fruity component with some caramel malt, nice balance but no discernable hop component. overall, a very nice beer DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Mar 14, 2008 I was very intrigued by what an Imperial Red actually is. Like others have said It reminded me of an IPA with the citrus flavor. Balanced fairly well with malt flavors it lacked a defined flavor. All in all a good beer, but not one of Lagunitas best. timfoolery (482), California, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle from The Wine Shop in Placerville. This brew isn’t what I expected. It tasted much more like an IPA/Pale Ale than a Red. What really impressed me was the controlled palate, given the alcohol content and medium IBUs. Had a hint of clear fruit juice, and mimiced the light side of an IPA. Nice beer. Hugerat (432), somerville, Massachusetts, USA Mar 11, 2008 This is a great beer. Dark red color with fairly robust head. Caramel and tea flavor. Light bodied and a wonderful citrus charged finish.
