Commercial Description:
This Special Ale is, in reality, a reconstructed exhumation of the very first ale that we ever brewed way, way back, in 1993. Brewed with a big head, a muscular malty thorax, a silky texture & all strung together with a hoppy sweet nerve sack... yum. O.G. 1.072 84.2 IBU

12oz bottle. Clear reddish amber with a lacing beige head. Fruity and flowery aroma with hops, honey and a little smoke. Flavor is sweet and malty with plenty of hops and a moderately bitter finish. A little salty too. medium body with soft carbonation and a slightly sticky finish. Overall, it has great balance and a good spectrum of pleasant flavors. Nothing overwhelms, and quite drinkable for the strength.

Quick diminshing off white head. Very lively carbonated. Citrus hops aroma (grapefruit and lemon). Nice bitterness up from with a bit of sour mixed in. Nice balance of bitterness and maltiness. Bitterness does linger on the tongue, but not in a bad way. Alcohol nice really apparent. Nice beer.

Pours deep amber-red, with a large cream-colored head that leaves a heavy lace. Aroma is West Coast hops, crystal malt (probably fairly dark), unfortunately marred by a green apple-like acetylaldehyde note. The good news is that the acetylaldehyde is not very strong in the flavor, which is all dark crystal and West Coast hops. Finish is really nice, leaving a sweet malt tail that begs for more.

Small bottle. Great appearance. Pours a dark amber with a two finger thick off white head, with good effervescence. Aromas of sweet malts combined with floral and grapefruit hops. The nose is very fruity. First thing I notice is the frothy mouth feel. Very bitter from start to finish, mostly grapefruit with very little malt sweetness. This beer leaves some amazing lacing...or should I say a foam covering all the way down the glass! Once my mouth gets acclimated with the strong hops, there is a whole lot of candy sweetness in the body. Could have done with a little less hops..but this is an American Strong Ale, and Lagunitas makes sure to keep the trend of hoppy domestic ales. The appearance and mouth feel is what did it for me.

WOW. Absolutely beautiful pour. Amber red mahogany, with a offwhite perfectly sudsy sans thick sud foam thing ample lacing.....its like that head you get from a coke float....or jenna jameson. Taste is sweetly hoppy, and well balanced hops. Very floral and even some toffee and salt water taffy notes. Ends on a grapefruit note, and bites back a bit more. kudos to the sonoma’s!

Dark copper with short lived thin head and some spotty lacing. Very apparent sweet malt aroma with a twist of hops(floral). Carmel, toffee, and malts. peach and hops on the finish.

Bottle sampled. Pours a dark copper with a small beigh head. Aroma of sweet malt, citrus, grapefruit, and some floral hops. Flavor is full bodied with caramel sweetness, fruit, brown sugar, piney hops, and some notes of toffee with a crisp bitter finish. Another stellar lagunitas brew.
